Thing is I made copies of those textures and made them in the dark Orion style but the shinemaps kept the Hecate at its original color so I didn't bother.

Did you just rename the textures to capital7-shine, etc. or did you change the pof to reference new texture names? You have to do the latter, I think, or there will be some things that don't overwrite sometimes.

You used the wrong textures as a base.

Check that Raynor, it uses largely the same textures as the Arcadia.

So you just used Raytile1 and Colortile instead for most of it? (Or improved versions of those, I guess)

Yes, that's the Hecate. I use two different texture schemes for Terran ships in my post-Capella fleet, one like that (GTC Dionysus, GTCv Deimos, GTD Hecate, GTI Olympus) and the dark one (GTC Aegis, GTCv Iceni, GTD Titan, GTDn Gaia, GTI Arcadia).

Less details/polies does not mean it is a better model. There can be an elegant model with a great profile and design but no detail, does not make it worse than a model with a bad design with a huge amount of detail.

The profile and design doesn't change between non-HTL one and the HTL one.
Stuff like the trim Snail is talking about is most definitely part of details.

I don't really like how it looks as if the Shivans have taken over the normal Aten glowmaps and turned them all reddish. Add a bit of cracks and irregularities and it'd look so much better.

The Titan-class destroyer GTD Shima, flagship of the 5th Fleet at Beta Aquilae, and the player's home base for the campaign. Named after Admiral Hikari Shima (2290-2371), commanding officer of the GTD Bastion and heroine of the Great War. Seriously, you didn't think they'd give the credit to the pilots of the GTD Bastion for being the "heroes of the Great War", did you?


The awesome GTDn Gaia, the first of three new GTVA dreadnoughts and the namesake of the class. The Colossus wishes it had as much firepower as the Gaia.


The Iceni-class corvette GTCv Diligent cruises near GTA Command HQ. Considering the success of the original Iceni under the command of Admiral Bosch, the GTVA decided that now they had the specifications, they would be fools not to build some of their own.


Deimos-class vessel GTCv Actium moping around. She's never been the same after the death of her love Lysander. Even her new paint job hasn't helped.


The Dionysus-class cruiser packs some serious firepower. The GTC Marauder here is showing off her massive gun turrets.


Aegis-class light cruisers such as the GTC Guardian are the fastest warships in the entire GTVA.


The Hippocrates-class medical frigate Ouroboros is bringing wounded ground troops back from the front lines on Triton in the Sol system.

Droid803 already made a perfect replica of the refitted Hecate so I don't need a picture of that one.

I can make a destroyer more powerful than the Hades or Lucifer, but that doesn't mean that both ships are then reclassified as destroyers, for example.

You have no idea what you're talking about. There are corvettes around the same size as the Iceni (the Raiden and Apep classes). FreeSpace ship classes are rather variable--compare the Cain to the Mentu or the Sobek to the Deimos. Also, the model is named corvette2r-01, and the only other "frigate" in the entire game is closer in size to a cruiser than the Iceni. There's no need to pull a new class of ship out of nowhere for the Iceni.

As for destroyer comparisons, it's not even in the same ballpark anymore, as destroyers have gotten a large HP increase (220,000-350,000 depending on class) and an armor type that heavily reduces damage dealt by weapons other than the than capital-grade beams (B/L beams and above) and heavy bombs (Helios, Atropos, Shivan Megabomb, and Shivan Ultrabomb). Corvettes do not "punch above their weight" anymore. A destroyer will slaughter a corvette, a dreadnought will slaughter a destroyer, and the Sathanas will slaughter just about anything.

Also, if you're talking about destroyers, the Orion, Demon, Hatshepsut and Ravana have more firepower than the Lucifer in FS2. I had to give the Lucifer a huge firepower upgrade (2 BFReds and 2 HReds) to bring it up into the post-Capella dreadnought category (more powerful than destroyers and less powerful than the Sathanas) because a Gaia or Izanagi would devour the FS1 Lucifer and the Diablo from Inferno is an ugly heap of junk I wouldn't touch with an eleven-foot pole.

You could just say "author fiat".

It'd be more honest, and less hypocritcal. You try and use size comparisons and then you turn around and say they're not important.

Also the Iceni could easily deserve a new shipclass as it has a different mission (get anywhere in the face of heavy opposition) and significantly more powerful armament than its contemporaries. The model name is of dubious value to the argument as it's in only seen FRED.

So frigate may simply mean a specialist ship.

As for everything else, that's your mod, and so it matters not to the discussion of the Iceni's canonical class. You could say it's been downgraded with the times (author fiat) but you cannot say the Iceni was never a frigate.
