Atari, Obsidian Entertainment and BioWare have announced plans for Neverwinter Nights 2, the sequel to BioWare Corp.'s best-selling and genre-defining role-playing game set in the popular Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe created by Wizards of the Coast. Atari, Inc. will publish the title.

Actually, Obsidian is on par, if not better, than Bioware. Its made up on ex-Black Isle employees. Remember them? The guys responsible for Fallout 1&2, Planescape Torment and the Icewind Dale series. They're doing KOTOR 2, so it looks like they've struck up a relationship with Bioware.

I think we can look forward to a game at least as good as the original Neverwinter Night, and in all likelyhood, a vast improvement.

Well NWN (Bioware) was pretty mediocre, so was the IWD series (Black Isle); the only recent Forgotten Realms titles that were great successes were those in the Baldur's Gate series, which IIRC was a joint venture for both companies. Let's hope this new partnership they've got (except Black Isle becomes Obsidian) for themselves produces titles of the same calibre.

No, SP NWN is pretty Hack 'n Slash.  The only difference is there is a real story going on in the background.

The main NWN campaign sucks; the user created stuff is what's really great. The Penultima and Eternum modules are great.

uh, I just read two seperate interviews, one with Obsidian and one with Bioware, that both state that this game is using the old Aurora Engine from NWN1, instead of the new engine, I forget what its called, presumably the one that is being used to power Jade Empire.

so...they're just starting development on a game that is using a 2 year old engine, and it will be released in 2006

yeah, my point exactly, these guy's aren't newbies to game development, at all.. they have experience from whatever previous games they've made respectively to draw from.
and now, they're making a couple of RPG's out of that
