carmack is a genious as far as effiecient game engines go, but he likes to keep his games true to the style he pioneered with the original doom. of course when the original doom came out i was playing descent

i do like the general environment of the game, dark and scarey ambiance, and the occasional hallucination, or cases of getting posessed. its a beautifull thing *sniff*.
unreal 2 was lame in story good in effects,and it didnt even try to set the proper environment. i think id has beter graphic designers than epic or whoever it was that does unreal. they could have really done without the mission briefings. they should have just continued the original story instead of make a new one. i do like the uy2004 demo though, does open areas really good and combat is cool too.
but anyway graphics have goten too good, they need to focus on gameplay and environment.
