lookin' good. I was surprised how much better Vice City was to GTA3. Hopefully this will make a similar jump.

From what I've seen, it'll be a bigger jump.

Am I the only one who, while not thinking that, would have assumed Galactic Terran Alliance more likely to spring to mind?

[color=66ff00]Meh, got bored of GTA 3 about 20 minutes into it. It's just the first one with nicer graphics and a bit more envelope pushing.

  • I'm a magic man, I've got magic hands.
Similarly, VC was GTA3 with more colours and a helicoptor. Although I have had a yearning to play it lately. And I don't have too many yearnings.

Has anyone here ever been playing Vice City, and while enjoying the fun of the flying tank, accidentally came across the invisible plateau high above the football stadium?  I called it Purgetory (sp?). :D

hooray, a kindred spririt. I though I was like the only person on Earth who doesn't think that GTA3 was all that spectacular.

Well, actually it was more of a matter of days for me. But the story just didn't engage my attention.

There's a story?

I've been hooked on GTA since the first one gave me the opportunity to run over those little Gouranaga bastards.

(Plus that one of the cheats was apparently written by a Rangers fan)

Yeah, u can get fat in this game.  U actually have to eat or you get sluggish or something.  U can also ride bicycles, which help u lose weight, they also have motorcycle cops like in CHiP's.  The targetting system is supposedly a lot better, too.  Oh, and u can get haircuts.

I don't know, I got GTA 3 and Vice City, I don't know if I'll pick up another GTA title.   It's gotta be well above and beyond the last one.

Offhand (and you can tell I'm looking forward a lot to this game), the main additions are;
- need to eat (with ability to get fat/thin, or overdo it and throw up)
- ability to excercise (i.e. gym)
- mix & match clothing, haircuts & tattoos (continuing the outfits idea from VC)
- home invasion missions
- basketball mini-game(?)
- ability to swim
- cars get dirty over time
- ability to customize cars with custom paintjobs, spoilers & nitros
- more intelligent pedestrian AI and behaviour (i.e. can 'stalk' a ped and they'll spend the day acting normally - going to house, to work, back home, etc)
- motorbike cops
- pedalled bicycles
- the countryside, including rednecks, camper vans, quad bikes and combine harvesters
- a big mountain
- motorways
- flyable planes (at the very least the Dodo has wings now)
- playing area something like 5-6 times that of VC, plus more interiors.  3 cities the size of VCs, based on LA, Las Vegas & San Fran (including the golden Gate Bridge by another name, maybe?)
- rag-doll physics
- improved lighting model (which also differs depending on the region)
- ability to run a casino (TBC)
- ability to run a gang (building on the idea from VC, cept this time the members should be more useful than running away from fights, including 4 person drivebys)
- 3 times more music (including the Verve - wayhey!)
- helicopters have a proper blinding searchlight
- Improved graphics engine (30-50% more polys), and little or no loading times.

It sounds like it'll improve on pretty much every aspect of Vice City.  Hell, I'd buy it as long as it was the same game in a different city.

IIRC one of the SCP programmers worked on Vice City QA, hactually.

from what I've heard, it's actually nothing like GTA beyond that both have you playing as a criminal who drives a car around..... IIRC Mafia is structured more around levels of different types (shooting, stealth, driving, etc), whereas GTA is more, um, 'fluid' within the city.  i.e. the city in GTA is a constant part of the game, moving about it and just roaming - but in Mafia it's just background scenery for the most part.  And also in Mafia the driving is not as fast nor crazy as GTA...the cars are slow 30-50s types ones and the Police will chase you for breaking the speed limit, etc.

this game is based on early 90's, right?

GTA:SA?  Supposseduly.  Albeit i'm sure at least one of the songs (Bittersweet Symphony) on the soundtrack is mid-late 90s...1996 IIRC.
