Ok, quick questions, I know that Subsystems allow Lodding, but is that Lod based on the relative distance of the subsystem from your own ship, or the relative distance of the main hull from your ship?

Secondly, I'm pretty certain the ship Lod itself is done from the 'centre' of the ship, which can be very annoying on very long or wide ships, where you can either have a jump that is noticeable between lods at one angle, or a large amount of polygons being used needlessly from another? Am I right in this?

Edit : Nuts, wrong Forum, could someone move this to the SCP Forum please? Thanks :D

?

As in the subobjects for a physical subsystem for different LOD models?  IIRC the LOD would be changed based upon the mainhull distance... i.e. would change at the same time as the main hull LOD would change.

Yes, that's what I thought, so as the ship enters Lod1, it draws all the Subsystems as Lod1 etc. I just thought it would be great if there was a way of doing it relative to the subsystem. That way if you are over a ship that is large, and there is one subsystem near you and one subsystem, say, 2km away but still attached to the same ship, it could be displayed as a lower-poly version, you could effectively use more polygons on subsystems if the lodding worked that way ;)

As for the main-ship lodding, what I mean is, say you have a ship that is 800m wide and 3km long? Now, iirc, the Lod distance is taken as distance from the centre of the ship, so, when you are 2.5km away from the centre, you are only 1km away from the hull if you are coming in from behind but are over 2km from the hull when approaching from the side?

I thought the LOD distance might be based on the bounding box for the entire ship, actually.

Ah well, if this gets moved to the SCP, hopefully one of the coders can set me straight ;) Might be handy to have seperate Lod distances for subsystems though ;)

LODs are for the whol model, distance is closet point to on the ship's main hull
