Now I am getting pretty hacked off with other people trying to say what is good for me....

My gf has a problem with her shoulder - similar to tennis elbow, a bad inflammation of the tendons, which is extremely painful when you move your arm.  OK, the next part - the doctor advised a large dose of Ibuprufen (600mg) 3 times a day - a total of 1,800mg.  So, she gets a bunch of 400mg tablets, and today I went to get some 200s.  So I am in the supermarket, I get my coke (hah! that's another story) and 4 boxes of 16 capsules.  I get to the checkout, and the assistant says "We can only sell 2 boxes" so I say "my girl needs 1,800mg of this a day" then, in seconds there is a supervisor ***** on my case also saying "only 2 boxes" I just shrug and say "fine, I'll come back later" then the ***** says: "we will refuse to serve you, and in fact I'm taking these now" at which she scoops up ALL the tablets and leaves.  I was angry, no, more than angry, I was furious.  I didn't lose it though, just calmly said "stuff your shop" and walked out leaving my coke on the belt.

Now, after I left, I bought 100 from the chemist after being refused 300, and 48 from another chemist, and 32 from the other supermarket.  BUT, and this is the crux of this post:

What business is it of the friggin supermarket how many headache pills I buy?

:hopping:

Oh, and anyone else think the 'Nanny State' mentality has gone too far?

This is a bit OTT, but OTH, the US allows a lot more OTC meds then the EU. There are some headache meds that an't be sold over here, so each time my dad goes to the States he brings back a full bottle.

BTW, if it was on doctors recipe, there shouldn't have been an issue. Mind, if you had to go to the doctor for every headache it would be bad too, but still.

he mentioned it was a bad shoulder problem.

Just show them the doctor's prescription, it ought to work. Otherwise threaten to sue 'em for causing physical distress and harm to your gf :drevil:

Yeah, if there's a prescription they should not be able to refuse service.  The reason for the restrictions are simply/obviously to try and stop people buying a large amount for suicide via OD.

I'd imagine the limit is set based upon this and that, if requiring a larger amount, you'd likely be in a position of having to see a doctor and get a prescription, anyways.... but it's debatable how effective this actually is in preventing suicides, because as you pointed out it's not exactly hard to go to multiple places and stock up.

Heh, with recipe; unlimited painkillers :p

Besides, I find it a good thing when painkillers are limited to people who don't have a recipe. Mainly because that **** is actually poison for your body. Anyway, why the hell would you want 300 pills if you don't have a recipe.

And Clave, since the doctor advised it, just ask for a recipe :)

 Yeah...

Great program.

But as for the prescription/recipe, she did not get one, just a scribbled note....

Anyway, just some other thoughts from the program/life:

CCTV cameras - Do you mind being watched ALL the time?

Playgrounds - Practically don't exist in thier original form, everything is padded.

School sports - What is so damn wrong about kids being competitive?

School transport - Hello! you don't need a freaking great 4x4 to transport one small child across Chelsea.

OK - calm, calm, calm - I'm alright now...:D

CCTV: Well, I can't be bothered with thinking about it. Sure, cameras in the toilets/showers shouldn't be allowed, and the tape should be destroyed after some time, but they do more good then bad. And when someone wants surveillance on you, the camera's hardly matter.
Playgrounds: Don't get me started. Even football (soccer for the Yanks), goals have to be surrounded with either rubber tiles (ouch?!) or loose sand. And a large log, or some old car, or some sewage pipes (new, clean ones, off course) can be great piees of a playground, but sine they're not specificly designed, they're not allowed.
School Sports: /me doesn't get the problem here.
School Transport: Give em a friggin bike, and get some decent bicycle lanes. Goes for both the States and the UK. Anyhing under 10 miles/16km should be easily done twice a day. Heck, I do 10km to and from to school (20 total) each day, and feel like a wuss.
4x4's: SUV's should be made illegal on roads. Seriously, they're too dangerous compared to other personal cars. If you need to transport lot's of stuff, get a van..

SUV's should only be given liscenses for people who NEED them. i.e. businesses that have a lot of cargo that requires moving through undeveloped areas, in which case it could be reasonable.
Either that, or only allow SUV's on the road which give the same mileage as an ordinary car.

CCTV - I can understand their value, i.e. for high crime areas.  But I think, for sake of civil liberties, their use should be reactive rather than anticipatory

Playgrounds - I think it's fair enough that everything is done to make playgrounds as safe as possible... I'm not sure you can complain if, for example, concrete is replaced by rubber crumb.  Also, ash football pitches are a crime against humanity.

School sports - nothing against them, so long as they don't force people to watch, as it's sodding boring.

School transport - very debatable.  Probably only necessary in areas where it is considered dangerous to walk home late at night, or in cases of great distance (i.e. like in the highlands).  Better off to have organised school buses in all cases (already happens in cases where transport to school is required).  Unfortunately, it's a bit of a catch 22, as so long as people are taking their kids to school in cars, the roads are busy, so it's more dangerous for kids to walk to school  (cross roads), so the parents feel obliged to transport them....etc.

SUVs - ban them for anyone who does not do at least, say, 25 miles of off-road travel per week.

Ash football pitches?
I think my kowledge of English language is failing me again.....

And school transport in the UK might indeed not be the safest thing to attempt on bike, the roads aren't exactly made for bicyclists. But still, it's a lot better for general stamina. Twouldn't be bad if people took bread instead of a bag of crisps for lunch, mind.

Volcanic, red, ash.  Basically like playing on little shards of glass (much, much worse than astroturf)... the stuff literally shreds skin into little pieces, I still have damage to my knees from playing on that stuff at primary school.

I think I have an idea of what stuff your talking about.

Who's brainfart was it that put the stuff on a football field?

What red gra?
Like little red pebbles only sharp?

That stuff is for playing 'real' hockey on (As opposed to ice/roller hockey; Use different kinda sticks), you ain't meant to play foot ball or any other kinda sport on that!

Out of curiosity Clave, how did your GF damage her shoulder like that? It just seems your doc prescribed quite a high dose of pain killers... In my experience, if it's that serious you'd be better getting a physio or someone to take a look at it...?

We don't know, it started small and just got worse...  The doctor said it may take months to get better, the three things he suggested were: Lots of Ibuprufen, Physiotherapy (long waiting list) or Cortazone injection into the joint.  It is a rare occurence it seems, and the shoulder joint is complicated....
