And that's what is currently amusing me about the games industry. I guess I'd be wrong in thinking that you'd want to release the demo of the game - to help people decide if they should buy it - before it's released in full.

But I guess that's just stupid.

yeah well the game came out over a month ago, so...

...**** guys...maybe you haven't thought about it...but...uh...maybe people don't have the game yet cause of the crap reviews? (The 'It's too dark! The monsters don't do ****!' sorta thing?) Why blow your money on some POS game...

...I for one...am pretty much broke...so...this is pretty much as good as it'll get for me...until I buy it...or Half life 2...

yeah... but i haven't heard many crap reviews about doom 3... other than its engine being extremely well designed, the graphics unbelievable, and... oh wait, those are all good reviews

if someone doesn't want to pay for the game, they could just send me a private message, and i'd either send them the 3 CDs via mail, transfer the files to them, or even give them a link to download them

The demo is for the benefit of the non-US people whom ID assume do not have sufficiently fast connections to have downloaded the pirated copy[ies].

Had I a system that I thought would run this it would be in my DL queue right now.

In case you ain't figured it out yet, ID's last 3 or so releases have more or less been in depth tech demos for the engine they've built so that other dev houses can see, drool, and pony up the bucks.

I already have a demo. It comes on 3 CDs and has netplay disabled. I downloaded using p2p software.

I'm I the only one who thinks that ID's choice to release the game and then a demo actually led to more piracy of the game?

It probably didn't help them any... many people are understandably apprehensive to spend their hard earned cash on a game they've not had the oppertunity to play yet. Understandably so as well.

I felt that way about Battlefield Vietnam - robbed. I was expecting it to be at least as fun as BF1942 but it wasn't. Since there was no demo I blindly bought the game based on the fact that I'd liked BF1942. Waste of my money if you ask me.

All in all then - yeah - software publishers/devs are doing themselves no favours by holding demos back untill the game is done - or not even releasing one at all.

at least relic had the right idea.

hopefully there will be demo for a few games (either on console or PC) for some of the upcoming releases, most notably Half-Life 2, and Halo 2.

Indeed it is. I've had D3 for a long time now and I haven't yet bothered to finish the game. The game being too dark is bull**** but its repetitive and dull after a promising start. D3 is on the same line as Painkiller.
