Uhhm. No ones forcing anything upon you dude. Like I said, they're just movies. NOT a cultural phenomenon. Just very succesful movies. They're not part of our heritage. They're entertainment. Meant to pleasure us, not teach us. And why not give Homer a word processor? Bet he sure would have appreciated it then. And the films are still appreciated as landmarks for technical and special effect breakthroughs. In no way have they been weakend.

I still dont understand why a person cant revisit his earlier work and touch it up. What, when he releases it, it automatically beolongs to the people? C'mon. If anything, the movies are HIS intellectual property. His works of art, He spent his own money on. For what? To pleasure you. Not to teach you. To make him money? Maybe, but he doesent need it. He's making loads off the technical advancements he's developed. Let alone THX, ILM, Skywalker Sound. Digital film making. Most probably he's only making them because he wants to. Who the hell has the right to tell him "NO, you cant do it." And why would anyone do it?

Watch the trilogy DVD commentary. Empire wasn't really acclaimed by many of the fans. Why? because it was different. It didn't have that happy, kiddy feel of the first one. It was darker, menacing, had a downer for an ending. People left feeling bad. They were dissapointed. 5-10 years down the line, its pritty much everyones favorite. Because they got used to it, they saw it as a part of a bigger picture. As will happen with the first three films in time.

Its not about culture, its not about making a mythology, its NOT IMPORTANT. They're just movies. Like star trek. Stargate. Dirty Dozen. Driving Miss Daisy. Resevoir Dogs. Mary Poppins. They should not be taken seriously. They can't be worshipped. Its make believe, its something you spend a few hours watching. A play. Entertainment.

So if someone goes back to his older work, sees a few flaws, and touch them up. So be it. Its his vision, he can do what the hell he wants. Its not a travesty when he replaces something that was heralded as landmark. Why? Cause you can still see the old stuff if you want to. Just pop in your vhs. And to all those people who wish the original non remastered, non special edition on dvds, its possible. Find the japanese Laserdiscs and burn those on dvd. They are out there.

Not taken seriously yes I suppose that because the first 3 nightmare on elm street movies were serious that dosnt meen the others cant jsut be goofy movies almost completley devoid of all traces of the originals.  Hey guys The next Die hard is going to be a romantic comedy!!!111!!!

When you're dealing with a plot that revolves around a farmboy who saves a princes, with the help of a smuggler with a man in a monkey suit for a co-pilot, how can you take it seriously? Geex, even the actors themselves say that. Actually I think it was Mark Hamil who actually said it. And for Elm street sequals. Well, thats a totally different thing. See, Wes Craven didn't do the other ones. And no one went "hey guys, lets make Star Wars into a romantic comedy."

The new tirlogy changes the face of the entire star wars universe. it is now some liek superhero flick liek x-men or somthing with all these super jedis but like many superhero movies they have no humanity in the characters. you cannot honestly look at the recent movies and even called the acting decent. THERE WAS NONE! I'd be suprised if even one line was in improv. Why do the later star trek movies still work? because the characters still act. They still ARE thier characters. in episodes one and two I dotn see obi wan I see some fruity guy who sang to nicole kidman! dont even start on anikan.

Well... Thats more of an oppinion, than a statement. But if you see Obi-Wan as a fruity guy from Moulin Rouge, fine. I still think his best role is in Trainspotting. And for acting in the original... as decent as in the first ones. Hell, its not shakespeare. And why should any lines be improv? Who cares?

Star Trek is also a whole different ball game in miljö and thematics. Star Trek was based on a TV series. A simple concept where people go to different places and discover things. Star Wars is set in a different universe, and we tap into a story thats allready started, and just watch it unfold. Like a fairy tale.

Its cool not to like the new ones? belive me I'd rather love them but you cant force yourself to love somthing you know is wrong. just dont work. I guess it depends on how much a person is able/willing to detach himself form the originals. to view the latest ones as seperate movies they arnt SO bad... they are entertaining but the acting still sucks.

Like I said earlier, no ones forcing you to do anything. And if you think he needs any fans trust, well... He has enough to make a dozen more if he wishes and still retire happily. He is carrying on his own legacy, because the sales of the DVDs on the first day alone proves that people still like em, no matter what he's done. And I doubt that a few disgruntled fans will change anything. Nor would those fans want to. They might threaten and say "I'll never buy the first 3". But I bet you my ferret, that those movies are on their dvd shelves.

Its all psychology.
