I played it. Then stopped about a month later. Got kinda boring for me real fast.

I play it on my PC. Runs remarkably smooth. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people online in a pretty damn massive world, yet no lag whatsoever. None. Nada. Zilch.

Give me a reason why I should?  Granted it's Final Fantasy, but I don't get the facination with MMORPGs in the first place.  Maybe that just shows the shallowness of my character that, if I'm playing a game online, I would rather be blowing the bejebus outta somebody on the wrong side of my gun than wandering around killing random stuff and having to dodge griefers.

It's a virtual world. Not some mindless kill-to-maim game. If you don't like it, it's just because you have a different taste.

However, this MMORPG has a storyline you can individually follow just like any of the other FF game. It goes through completing missions for the country you've chosen.

And ofcourse there are the fun mini-games such as fishing, harvesting, crafting, logging, etc...

Granted, the game is a bit tedious to get into the first few days. but once you hit a semi-high level for your character it becomes really good fun. You join in parties and complete missions together, you explore, kill big ass creatures, etc.

The best thing is that every piece of armor, every weapon, etc etc has a different look and can actually be seen very clearly on your character when you equip it. This is something that is lacking in most MMORPGs. A character would look exactly the same even if you equip a chain mail instead of your standard leather jacket.

If it had an SP mode I'd be all over it, I like FF, I just don't like the whole MMORPG idea because it eventually devolves down into "Let's Line up to kill the Dragon or Demon or Whatever", and then when it's dead and the player group moves on it revivifies for the next group.  There's no point, if I play a game that is supposed to have one or two heroes(me and my party) and I've got 500,000 other's right behind me it becomes tedious, as you said.  Village 'X' will always be under threat because there are new players coming along to defend it as part of their process of leveling up to where they can go looking for trouble.  Eventually, Village 'X' should become a ghost town with citizens leaving because of the continous threat.

I guess it boils down to me not playing well with others.  Even when I play Renegade online(it's really the only game I play online, the people are friendly), I usually go off alone and act as a somewhat competent diversion while the rest of my team goes the other way to kill the other side's base while they're busy killing me or I hang out in our base and defend by myself while everyone else goes and attacks.  This extends to my "Real Life" as well, I was never invited to go do something with my classmates or my few(1-2) friends, I think it's because I'm annoying know-it-all who doesn't actually know a whole lot.  I have two social skills: "Hi, how are you?" and "Thank You.  Have a nice day."

i would if i could afford to play it... i can pay for it maybe once.. and that's enough for me..

i've been partaking in the open beta of Ragnarok Online for the oceanic region of earth (australia inlcuded).. so, yeah, if it's free to play, chances are, i'll play it..

I never played a MMRPG. Mostly because I don't like monthly fees.


It should have been called Final Fantasy Online or something. I don't like the idea of online games counted in the series.

Whats with you people saying there is no story involved in this game? There certainly is a story based aspect in the game (as i said before). Thats what makes this MMORPG so different. Else I wouldn't have bought it.

Only this time it works through missions. Depending on which of the countries you signed up with at the beginning (San O'Doria, Bastok or Windhurst) you can sign up for missions. So basically there are 3 seperate viewpoints for the story even. Each mission is story related. It plays out pretty much the same as the other FF games only there is a MMORPG aspect when you want to level up. And even that isn't that much different from the original concept seeing as normally levelling up is just as dull. Fighting countless of missions.

And with the 2 expansion packs ('Rise of Zilart' and 'Chains of Promethia') it adds even more missions, quests, items, skills, areas, monsters, etc.

This game is only about 6000% harder then normal FF games But that isnt a bad thing

Yeah, it's got a story, but I just couldn't really get into it. The intro movie was cool, though. First time I played, I spent the first couple of days figuring out which monsters I could take (the game'll trick you. You can fight one monster of the same exact type as another you defeated earlier, and get yourself completely owned), then I began doing missions. I found them remarkably dull, and I couldn't get myself interested again in doing them. I think I got to somewhere around level 10-15 'fore I uninstalled it.

The first few missions are supposed to be dull (as strange as it ounds). You're a simple adventurer. One out of thousands in this world. You will run errands the first few missions. Only after that you'll be getting the really interesting missions. You can't expect to be crowned  T3h UlT|m4t3 H3r0 the first time you walk into the city.

As for the mosters, yes, it's tricky. But thats what the 'Check' command is for. If you use it when you target a monster it'll give an indication of the strength of the monster. Such as "It seems to be an easy prey." or "It seems to be a decent challenge" (which is usually the one to go for). Up to "It seems to be a tough one"(which will own you completely).

And the movie is indeed very cool. The rush against the city has a typical Helm's Deep feel to it. And it also has a very dramatic touch in the last part

I don't want a game where you are thrown smack in the middle of it without good reason. It ruins the whole thing. These missions allow you to explore a bit and get used to the game itself. Besides, these missions take no more then 15 minutes a piece. Not very long. the bigger missions with actual story impact can take hours to complete and are fun to do. Especially when you've made a few friends and go partying it's quite a lot of fun to get together a bunch of people with different jobs and plan out your combat accordingly.

Example;

Warrior (Tank); Goes in and prevents the monsters to attack the mages (Black & White mages cuz they have the lowest HP).
White mages; Support the party through spells.
Black mage; Ranged magical attacks through spells (which get more complex and powerfull as you level up).
Ranger; Ranged physical attacks as Human artillery for support fire.

(Thats just an example of the many types of strategies you can employ)

But then again, it's a matter of taste. If you don't like it... well, then you just don't

That's fundamentally why I do not like MMORPGs.  I'm definately a casual gamer; I don't have the time to put in to keeping my character competitive in some fictional world.  If I'm going to play a game, it's because I can sit down to it for a couple of hours (at most, not least) and kick some tail at whatever it is that the game is about.  Getting a couple of kills, or managing an empire for a couple of game years at a time, or clearing a level or two, is about all I can take the time to do.  Those with more time and money and with more patience for a potentially boring gaming experience I guess would enjoy MMO's, but I have none of those things to play around with.  In short, I like to be able to plug in when I feel like it and have the full potential of the game open to me, rather than being limited because I can only log so many hours playing in a given time frame.
