It's a virtual world. Not some mindless kill-to-maim game. If you don't like it, it's just because you have a different taste.
However, this MMORPG has a storyline you can individually follow just like any of the other FF game. It goes through completing missions for the country you've chosen.
And ofcourse there are the fun mini-games such as fishing, harvesting, crafting, logging, etc...
Granted, the game is a bit tedious to get into the first few days. but once you hit a semi-high level for your character it becomes really good fun. You join in parties and complete missions together, you explore, kill big ass creatures, etc.
The best thing is that every piece of armor, every weapon, etc etc has a different look and can actually be seen very clearly on your character when you equip it. This is something that is lacking in most MMORPGs. A character would look exactly the same even if you equip a chain mail instead of your standard leather jacket.
