Is there anyone we're on good terms with?

There's a state of cold-war with the WC community, 'we' seem to hate everything related to GS, DG got a chunk of the HW community pissed at us, WS's official line is "HLP is full of pussies" last I heard, I personally think SectorGame caters to whores...

And I can't think of one group of gamers or geeks who actually get on well with our *****es forumites.

The only positive interactions we've had have been from the "We hate Derek Smart" demographic.

And now that I think about it, even NW's official stance towards HLP is "It's full of fags" despite the fact that the entire user base migrated from HLP.

Well, HLP's gaming community, albeit small, is respected in... places... for their efforts in making the SCP better. Generally speaking all communities based solely on game/s are A) filled with cranky assholes who think they're superior to everyone and B) degraded to levels known only to primordial soup. They are not very good meters on "are we liked or not".

As long as we don't openly wage war with WC community and everyone else and they don't want to bring us down 'cause of some asshole's deeds, I'd say we are doing pretty well.

And small competition and xenophobia always makes thing better. And jingoism, too.

To be fair no one here really seems to care much about the Wing Commander community. We have our own port and that's about the only WC thing anyone cares much about.

They however seem to hate us. The only explaination I can think of for this disparity is jealousy.

I must admit, I agree with Kara here, the only time we get involved in the WC community is when they try to pull off yet another rather poor joke at the expense of Freespace.

Other than that, I never hear them mentioned here.

I know that there's a core of excellent modders and very capable people who frequent this place because they enjoy the subject matter (and hopefully) the site as well. Sure - it's nice to be liked - but then I'm not going to lose any sleep over the communities that don't like this place. If they don't like it - let them stay away and get on with discussing things they do like. It should be no more complicated than that.

I can't speak for other modders, but I like to try and create stuff for an audience.  Obviously, I'd prefer that audience to be as big as possible.

At the same time, I don;t care enough to learn modding another game.

But, generally speaking, the administration of HLP has only ever stepped outside of our own community to interfere if we find that another community is having/making trouble with us.

Otherwise, what should we care whether the WC community thinks FreeSpace bombed the space combat genre? It doesn't need to affect us and we know that reasoning with them doesn't get anyone very far. It's mutually beneficial to just leave eachother alone.

That's NOT the official line. Just the opinions of some of the members. Hell, of Warpstormers are at or from HLP. WS is fine on terms "officially", that meaning my opinion. The rest can bite me.
