Yes, there are a couple of treaties made in the cold war, but at the same time there isn't another superpower capable of enforcing the respect of them....

Hmmph. "Respect" isn't a word that Americans understand. Or if they do, they don't seem to care. We need to dangle a couple of Tridents under their noses and say "listen, pal - enough of your bull****. Stop ****ing about." If Blair gets kicked out next year, it might start to happen, but until then, there's no chance....

Show me something worthy of respect, and I'll respect it. This whole article is speculation. I don't see a shred of evidence anywhere. For all the hard evidence you can provide, this could be about Global Hawk UAVs or the regular KH-series satellites.

As for your Tritons, guess who made them. Yeah. Us. And we've got a lot more of them then you do. More to the point, nobody in their right mind waves nuclear weapons about threateningly, because there is no better way to turn world opinion against you rapidly.

Sort of like low-yield bunker buster nukes?

Yeah, like that. "useable" nukes?

There's a fairly good chance the US and Russia may be entering another arms race at this point, as shown by the anti-missile platform vs. solid state rocket debacle...

Wouldn't that be the US and China? Even under Commisar Putin, aren't the Russians still having money problems?

Offline Grey Wolf

It's Comrade Putin, plutocratic capitilist pig. And why would you need money if you are the great and powerful representative of the working class?

On a more serious note, they're upgrading their nuclear cache. Possibly through the money they're getting from selling arms to China.

Russian nuclear arsenal is mostly pointed to china, which represent a bigger threat for them...
I think putin is subrler than thinking to start a second cold war...
That will most likely be between US and china, with Putin making his gains from a neutral position...

 Mmmmm, smell the irony....

As for a Chinese -  US cold war, it won't happen. Their economies are far too closely linked. Anyway, the days of inter-state rivalry are pretty much over. You don't get proper wars any more....

I think the main worry for the Russians would be if the Chinese decided they needed a wee bit more living space to their north.....

There is the fact that Russias has been selling arms to China, which may imply a warming of relations.

Uhm, the circle is closing ina round Russia, and China has nothing to do with it. The US is peeling off the layers. Georgia, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Serbia. Romania also has a mini-Ukraine thing going on right now. And every country falls to Western influence conveniently has US military bases put in.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Serbia/Georgia/Uklraine template was tried in Russia itself within the next few years.

Guess who Germany's largest trading partners in 1914, 1939 and 1941 were.

Answer:  France, France and Russia, respectively.
