I have AMD in one computer Intel in the other. I use the AMD for games and the Intel to run Lightwave, which has a few extra 'enhancements' for Intel based chips.

Both on Asus motherboards.

I've never had any reason to complain about either, a few random crashes on the AMD, but that is more because of the sheer volume of stuff on it, and I think I have Adware lurking still.

I've also had a few VPU crashes on the Intel, but that is more likely down to the Radeon 9200 being pushed too hard by the Sims 2, besides, the good thing about Radeon is that a VPU crash is not fatal

My VPU crashes tend to be rather interesting. Fun, interesting colors all over the screen, causing a need for instant rebooting.

Never had a VPU crash... although when I installed the Omega cat 4.4 drivers, they corrupted somehting, and every time I enter the catalyst control center, (which was supposed to be uninstalled) or I try to get into the advanced options for the video drivers, I get a BSOD and it instantly reboots the pc.

My VPU crashes are due to the fact that my 9800 is second-hand. My friend, who I bought it from, flashed it up to a 9800XT bios and put a Zalman cooler on it, which is just a bit weak for the purpose. I should probably flash it back down to either 9800 or 9800 Pro at some point...

What on earth are you talking about?  SLI isn't Alienware tech.  DFI is an awesome motherboard brand.  The Athlon64 FX55 was released a while ago.  6800UE are just as easy to find as X800XTPE's (read, impossible to find).

Assuming I had enough time and money, I could easily build such a system.

The motherboard I like best is the one that's inside my computer.

IBM processor, 8 x RAM slots, with up to 8GB RAM (I have 2GB) Serial ATA (2 x HD) 8xAGP slot, 3 x PCI slot, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB 2.0, ports.  5.1 optical in, 5.1 optical out, and some other stuff...

Works for me anyway...
