'lo. I have a PC with no speakers, and a stereo. What kit do I need to run the sound out through the stereo and how should I connect it? I'd Google, but I'm in a hurry

Depends. If your sound card has a s/p-dif out, and the stereo has an s/p-dif in, you're set. Not sure how to do it otherwise...

What d'you mean by "stereo"? Doy you mean a crappy all-in-one mini system, or a proper hi fi? If it's the latter, just run a 3.5mm jack-->phono cable from your PC speaker socket (prob'ly the green one) to one of the aux inputs on the back of your amp, and choose that input.

If the former, you might have a line-in socket on the stereo. If so, do the same as above, but use a 3.5mm jack --> 3.5mm jack cable insetead. If you don't then you're screwed.

I have one of them 'headphone jack' to 'RCA jack' dohickies hooked up, so that I have my stereo providing the bass, and rear support for surround sound, and two desktop speakers providing front and high pitched sounds. Works excellently.

If you're stuck with a basic sound card with only 1/8th inch out, go to your local electronics supply house(radio shack, sometimes Wal-Mart, best buy, ect), anywhere that sell stero equipment.  They should have a cable that is 1/8th inch jack on one end and standard RCA jack on the other, plug the 1/8th inch into the Line Out on the sound card and the RCA to the matching color plug on the back of the stereo..  It ain't pretty and there are better ways to do it, usually requiring higher end equipment, but it works.
