Origin of the HLP logo
you know, the flaming hexagon thing.
I was just wondering... Where did it come from? Who invented it? Does it have any meaning, or is it just awesome looking?

nope, can't say that I know
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Err. Setekh said it was just random, IIRC. Search for it, you'll find where he said it once.

As for who made it, I'd guess Setekh, since he's the guy on the staff who does the most with graphics, and he's been here since the site's beginning.

That's like saying Da Vinci was just the guy that painted the Mona Lisa...
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

Setekh did make it.

Aha! Found it!

The Hard Light Productions logo was invented long, long ago by co-founder Setekh, and its meaning is a mystery even to members of the highest echelons of HLP society. This is about as detailed as the descriptions get. Straight from the horse's mouth:

"Well, since I designed it, I suppose I should field that question. The HLP logo represents... the Hardness of Light... and embodies the Produce of Hardy Lights... without any of the Lightness of a Production... or for that matter the Product of Hard...ness." - Setekh

Oh Setekh...:wakka:

Really?

I just thought it was a SubSpace wormhole made simple as an octagon.

Nah, something involving pirates and flaming ninjas would be the best ever.

Well then, we have no choice but to call it art.  And I think good art is the stuff that anyone interprets as anything...

Personally, years ago, I first thought it was a scary looking object...:nervous: Perhaps HLP isn't for the faint of heart?

I dunno...:ick:

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Marauder indeed found the relevant quote. There's very little to add to the subject, though BD's interpretation is pretty inventive. ;)
