which one? the table or the gameboy one? the gameboy one is flipside's.

[EDIT]  I don't know how to texture, so you'll have to live with stainless steel for a bit.

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. Cobra: you need to spend a lot longer than you evidently did making a model. Hell, my first model (well, my second, if you count the one I did from the GMax tutorial) has taken me over 24 hours of solid work so far! It's still going, as it happens (it's the "Iron Duke WIP" thread in this forum), and I'm not really close to finishing it yet. Seriously, there's not much point posting something that basic. People won't be likely to comment much, simply because there's nothing there to comment on. They're more likely to give you abuse for wasting their time...

Criticism is part of help;  part of knowing what is right, is knowing what you've done wrong.  The other thing is that you need to be able to do some basic work for yourself first, and what you have so far isn't enough.... basically, at the moment you need to learn everything.

We can't tell you everything; we can can tell you some things.  Bu you need to start for yourself.

Do this tutorial; http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/mods/fighterguide/

It's very basic, but it'll help you a lot; after all, this is exactly how I started.

actually, i did that model. don't have it anymore though. i even turned it into a flyable ship for FS2. never could get the thrusters to show up tho.

BTW, here's a model update...

I've been busy, so it's not much of an update. those things on the back are the thrusters, and i've added something for the comms and navigation.

Still lots more needed. I'd suggest drawing a design on paper. Then you can concentrate on modelling each bit at a time. At the moment it looks like a lot of boxes stuck together. Get some non-right-angled shapes in there and it'll start to look like a ship.

That's really, umm...God-aweful.
Sorry Cobra, but if you create your "first model" make sure it's good enough to post. Just don't post everything you make, only post the good stuff.

Agreed.  I'm not even trying to publicly admit to anything I'm making...

This is my first model. So far, I've invested one hour on it.
It still needs some tweaking (reduce polycount!), but other than that it's pretty much done.

It's a super-heavy-cruiser with aprox. 50 beam guns! (WOW!)

I think I'll call it GTVA Boom Boom Blaster.

Who can unwrap it for me. ;)

P.S. ... just had to do it it. ;) Sorry.

Ok....this took me literally 11 minutes to make (6:29 to 6:40); I realise it's pish

Now, what you need to do first of all is actually plan out your design; even if it's just mentally.  Make everything have some semblance of purpose.  Break up flat areas with recessed panels or extruded  'plates'.  I this case I made the engine big to haul crap, added reinforcements to the underside and also added a number of plates and windows with a view to later texturing it.

you need to think ahead; not just what you want to model, but how.

EDIT; fixed

Super-heavy-cruiser? What kind of crack are you smoking? That's clearly a Corvette sized vessel.

I must say I like the subtle features in your design, it can take a few minutes, but if you stare at it long enough all of the details start to pop out.

Well, we can't help you if there's nothing to help you with. We don't know what this ship is supposed to even look like, so how the hell can we tell you what to do to it?

I'm sorry if we're coming across as less than helpful (or friendly for that matter), but you have to produce something substantial for us to critique. Less than that is just a waste of both your and my time. I mean, compare your "ship" to something like this:

This god-awful sketch took me all of a minute to do, and it still has enough detail to get a basic mesh out of it very quickly. Do a quick drawing like this, and then make a model that has every single detail on it. Then post that, and you might get some constructive advice. OK? :)

EDIT: Christ, aldo did much better than me... :nervous: Well, he's a master modeller, and I'm ****, so I suppose that's to be expected.

I have an old concept drawing that looks scarily like that, oddly enough.
