WIP: Tachyon-class Patcom
As no one seems able to find my revised version, and as the first version is quite horrible, I decided to attempt to make it again. So far, I've managed to get the command section completed: http://www.geocities.com/jdd1617/tp-csp.html

Questions, comments, suggestions?

Dunno what a Patcom is, but it looks kind of bland. Flat thing with a cockpit on....

What is it supposed to look like, and what's it from?

Independence War 2. As I said, this is the command section, which is supposed to look like this:

The command section is then docked to the main body of the ship, leading to it looking like this:

I'm currently debating whether I need to stretch the command section...

Ahhhh.

The first pic doesn't look much like the front bit of the second. Longer and straighter edges, and the cockpit looks like it's in the middle rather than offset to port. Strange...

Your model looks like the first one, though, so good work. :) Perhaps stretch it a little bit to get it to match up better with pic 2....

There were two different versions in the game. One belonged to your character, and one was the standard version. I'm aiming for the one that belongs to the main character...

Those are two entirely different types of command sections.

Persoanlly I think you should make both... I particularly liek teh second non-character one, it's more symetrical adn it's teh one we've always seen (for us people not familiar with the game that is always the image shown of the Patcom that comes to mind)

Thankfully, I still had a copy from before I subdivided and smoothed, so you can get both versions. I actually just finished making them both match up (the rear section smoothed a bit differently on each).

Got some more work done on the model, specifically the main hull of the ship:

As I said earlier, it's a Tachyon-class Patcom from Independence War 2. For a more complete description, it's the last ship listed on this page: http://www.i-war2.com/ships_db9.htm

nice, gw. when you're done make a devastator.

I've gotten the texturing done for the default cockpit and the body. This is about as good as I can get them without either remaking the textures (which takes more skill than I have) or rebuilding the model (which to tell you the truth, I'm not really inclined to do for the fourth time).

:eek2: awesome  looks almost like the original with one exception. see the bridge? take the under part, move it a little ways in front of the viewpoint, and then kind of round it off.

Cool :)
I just wonder, w/o the autotargetting, and the guns placed so far away from each other, will it be possible to actually hit anything smaller than a cruiser with the patcom?
That really makes me want to reinstall Iwar2, but the freeform mode was getting boring too quickly :(

The gun mounted on the command section as the only one that will probably be useful against fighters, but as I'm putting the Quadpack launchers on this thing, you'll have ammunition to spare. You can probably feel free to use Harpoons and Trebuchets on basically everything. Also, the PBCs (or whatever I use in place of them) on the main hull should be able to take down bombers, or at least the larger ones. Finally, you'll have the turret mounted on the bottom, which should also help some against the fighters.

The problem is that there's no random missions, looting cargos gets old very fast, no matter if you're flying a patcom or a carrier...
