No, I don't need that much space.

Do you ever use .OGGs?  It looks like the sandisk can't do them but the iRiver can.

I can convert any file I need to, so thats probably not an issue. I'm just not sure about the Sandisk whereas I am sure about the iRiver.

find a friend who has a sandisk and test it out for a few days.

I've had IRiver for almost two years now and I must say that even though it's a flash-128, it still rocks.

I have this, about the same sort of thing:

Does everthing these two do, same sort of price.

The only things i can really find wrong with it is that the interface is a bit confusing at first, and there isn't an option to make your own playlist.  Its got all sorts of playlist options, random, repeat, random folder etc, but changing between albums can isn't as smooth as it could be, especially when you are in the middle of doing something.  This is a bit of a pain, but my old mp3 player could only really hold 1 album, 512MB is a big jump up.

Other than that is does everything.  Sound quality is great, but get a reasonable pair of headphones.

You're not one of those people who think compressed music should be 128kbps, do you?  If not, 512MB wont hold ****.  Get a device with a harddrive.  10 gig is a start, but not very good when you want to store multiple discographies.

Based on looks alone, cause I read this at 4 am instead of sleeping, I would get the iRiver.  It looks cooler and has more buttons and a nice backlit screen.  ...good night

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Those things are expensive, unreliable, and crap quality.  If you want to play MP3s, use an MP3 player.  Not a CD player.

I saw a 128Mb MP3 player for £40 in Homebase the other day, was sorely tempted, since I don't really need that many tunes at one time, but I thought I'd hold out for a few months longer and wait till I can pick up at least 256Mb for that price :)
