Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

holy ****, this megadeth cd rox. sounds like theve been inspired by some black metal, theres a few elements there that familiar to me that ive never heard in megadeth before. and i see theire hate metallica attitude still exists here :D and if they keep up with what they are doing i see them finally standing victorious over daves eldrich nemesis. indeed i find it ironic how metallica is in defence of intellectual property rights, even after they got famous on dave's riffs (the reason metallica's first 3 albums rock), which they used even after they were told not to. now you know why i dont like metallica anymore.

You're talking about the new one, yeah? It does have some great tracks on it. As for the black metal thing, there was a great interview with Dave Mustaine in a magazine a little while back, and he said that he dug black metal guitarists. Which is good. :D

Ironically, though, Mustaine has been saying that Megadeth won't be making any more records, even though the new one is the best thing he's done for ten years. I'm going to see them live at the Download festival (at Donington Park) in June - should be great!

As for the whole feud with Metallica, I personally think it's rather childish on both sides. I suppose that's what you can expect when you have a clash of such giant egos, but still, I hope they'll eventually make up, if only so they play together again (I want to see them pull a Maiden and make one of their best ever albums 20 years into their career ;)). I'm looking forward to seeing the therapy session with Mustaine in Some Kind of Monster. It seems to be the key to the latest round of insults (Mustaine didn't want it to be included in the final cut, but it was put in anyway), as Mustaine thought it made him look bad, but other people don't seem to think so...

Metallica themselves still have potential, IMO - I think they now realise what a joke they've become, so they'll try to redeem themselves with their next record.

EDIT: Oh, and Megadeth - Kick the Chair :D

now there's an idea.  But the odd thing is that for all the metal i listen to i can only compose music that sounds good only on acoustic/non-distorted-electric guitars.  Its like this horrible paradox of mine that i can't escape.

Phreak: I hadn't heard that. That's cool.

Iron Maiden - Face in the Sand (gotta love the kickdrums on this)

EDIT: About the can't-compose-metal thing - what do you end up with usually? Are you aiming for a jaggedy thrash/death riff, or something more melodic? Cos I find melodies horribly difficult to do, but I can knock riffs out fairly easily (whether they're any good is another matter).

basically it ends up as really wacky chord progression that only sounds good on acoustic guitars.  Its only going to be that way since i can't solo for crap.  I think the problem is that i tend to write stuff with my amp off at 2am since i don't want to wake anyone.  For some reason its my creative peak time.

Ahh - that might have something to do with it... have you tried using headphones (if your amp has a jack for it)? Then you can make as much racket as you want and nobody will know :D You could try restricting yourself to one scale, or a particular group of notes, and seeing what you can come up with just using that...?

Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness (album of the same name)

My god this is good. Irish folk-tinged black/pagan metal. I think the word "bleak" best describes the sound. Imagine standing on a moor at dusk in the pissing rain, and that's what it sounds like... :shaking:

yea i have, the cord gets in the way sometimes.  and what i have created sounds like a mid-tempo riff that sounds straight out of Slayer's Spill the Blood.  I'll get together with a few friends over spring break and see what we can do.

On another note for festivals, Iron Maiden is rumo(u)red to be playing Ozzfest this year along with Sabbath, BLS, and possibly Megadeth and Anthrax

Glad you like it! :D I got their new one (Gathering Wilderness) in the post today, and it's been played through about 5 times already. I bought it on the strength of the review and interview in a magazine, and I must say I'm mighty impressed with it. It is really grim, isn't it? If you want another suggestion, I'd definitely say get the new Enslaved album (ISA) if you haven't already. I have it on limited edition double vinyl :drevil: It's brilliant.

It's kind of weird, actually. I've only started listening to this kind of stuff (black/pagan metal etc) in the last few months. I never liked it before, but now I can't get enough of it!

As for festivals, Maiden are apparently going to headline the Reading and Leeds festival in August over here, which should be awesome. They headlined it in 1982 on the Number of the Beast tour as well :D Ozzfest is going to be "hosted" by the Download festival in the UK, so it'll have Sabbath, Megadeth, System of a Down, etc. there. Looks to be very good. Of course, all this means I won't be going on holiday this year, as all my money's going on the tickets
