Thing is, it sounds like the guy they are talking to is some kind of Gestapo wannabe, it's probably just the translation from German to English, which can sound abrupt, but I just get the image of a pompous little git in a black uniform

I think there is this image of Europe as a single entity united in their hatred of America. Strange really, we are usually far too busy trying to kick each other in the balls to get united enough for that.

Either way, as Nico says, it'll hit the courts once or twice, and the law will be fixed.

There are some guys in administrative positions that need some serious treatment. But that's true for any country. Just take that case to the courts, and the administrative rule this decision is based on will die quickly.

oh btw, before believing it you might actually go check out wether or not GERMAN news is reporting this...and to what extent, cause we all know that UK news-outlets aren't exactly "fair and balanced" when it comes to all things EU.

That issue is not related to the EU, it's based on a german law without any EU directive or regulation.

And this has indeed been on the news over here.
