To clarify, it's through and because of his position of authority and responsibility over the Catholic Church that gives him the most negative points in my book. Specifics? Well, gay bishops or cardinals or whatever, for one. Blatantly anti-Biblical, right there.

If you want something more personal to him, then you may be disappointed, as I haven't researched the guy. But wasn't there some sort of "we all worship the same God" line he gave in regard to the 3 major mono-theistic religions? If that's an accurate recollection, then that's not only blatantly anti-Biblical, but blasphemous as well.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Gay Bishops and Cardinals? Hailing from an alternate universe, are we? Catholic priests take a vow to be celibate, which kind of blocks the entire issue, assuming they follow their vow. There's also the whole theological issue, in which the Roman Catholic Church declares of homosexual relations: "Under no circumstances can they be approved."*

Also, the "we all worship the same God" thing is incredibly logical, as all three major monotheistic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) all derive from Judaism.

Haven“t you heard? There are quite a few of them in Boston.
:p
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

Would be rather difficult, as there's only one bishop in Boston :p Also, those priests (note the difference in title) have been for the most part defrocked.

Shh... you're not supposed to tell that to an American or Israeli!

Otherwise it might usher in a new era of peace and put an end to arms sales! Take one for the team and keep quiet, take one for capitalism!

AFAIK, the Church(capitals always means the Vatican) started allowing priests to marry a while ago.  Monks and Nuns still can't though.

And the Vatican has been suspiciously silent on the matter of so many of their priests apparently being paedophiles.

I know that's the reason. Hardly shows that he's got no fear of death though does it? :)

They can say whatever they want, but that doesn't refute that fact that gay bishops exist.

As for the "same God" thing, wrong. The inside of the Dome of the Rock states a few times that (paraphrased) "there is no God but Allah, and He has no Son". Kinda rules out Christianity <--> Islam, don't it?

You know that mobile could owned by that gun TrashMan posted a while back (http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn56-e.htm).

Besides which the only thing that protects anyone like the Pope is the suicidal following he has - ****ing with him is more bother than it's worth in the long run for any major power.

Edit:

Sandwich, many people argue Jesus was not literally a son of god, rather a corporeal embodiment of him/her/it. So in fact, the argument could be made that Islam and Christianity do not contradict each other-  they just have some translation problems.

That all relies on believing in a God in the first place of course. ;)

So by that logic the Jewish God also isn't the christian one. Muslims claim that Jesus was a prophet who has been misinterpreted by his followers as being the Son of God. There you go. They believe that christians believe in the same god as them but that they simply choose the wrong prophet to follow.

Technically, it's Christian God <--> Islamic God anyways.

You could even say that the multi-diety religions are worshipping the same God as Christianity (etc), and are simply interpreting the multiple facets as individual entities.
