Nope. Tom's Build is basically retail as far as I'm concerned.

I usually play SCP unless my only option is vanilla. I don't use Fred 2 open because it's really buggy and I want Vanillaspacers to be able to play my missions too.

hmmmm..... *Volcabulary added to Databank: Vanillaspacers*

Guys, I take it you've made sure these bugs are in the bug database?

My advice would be to get Freespace Open. If it doesent behave on your computer or if you Graphics card/processer cant handle it, get a new ones. It's definatley worth it!

Besides, there are some campaigns coming out without FS Open required. I think this is due to the bugs encountered in Fred 2 open. When I make missions, I use standard Fred for that reason. That way, I can actually save loadouts and get decent Y axis ship perception while at the same time allowing Vanillaspacers to play my missions.

Um.. I dont agree with this statement. You should only upgrade if you need to run FSO with high settings.

If you have bugs or slowdowns with low spec settings then make sure there is a bug in the database, add any information you can and start threads in the source forum to politely draw our attention to your issues.

We are doing our best but its not easy and if you want things to get better you must be willing to help diagnose and test the problems.

Both. I can't stand some of the shortcommings of FSO (or maybe they might just be too high-end oriented, like those Herc models),then again the lighting in FSO is tasty. On the other hand, nothing beats watching the FMVs on the retail FS2.

SCP. Definitely SCP. :p

Cutscenes should work in FSO, btw. You just need the AVIs.

I already have the files, and they work fine, 'cept the AVI's themselves are not as good quality as the MVE files on the disk. Must've probably been screencaptured, since the intro AVI has a weird "jitter" in the beginning.

Cobra: The Herc models run fine on D3D, but they take quite a beating when put into OpenGL with forced 2xAA on... And I have a GForce FX 5200 Go. Also, they kinda look out of place when compared to your "low-end" Herc 2 models. I wish they added some tint to the glass on those Hercs to make it more... consistent (Didn't need to waste all the extra polys on the internals of the engine. Could've just probably left it to shinemaps and such. Also, the "tail" light of the Herc is green, not red). Same with the Leviathans/Fenris: I downloaded the lower end models not only because they'd perform better but they are consistent with the models used in the FMVs. (It'd look pretty funny after seeing those clips that what you get in-game looks alot more spiffier)

Also, perhaps the reason I still play FS2: It's easier to see if your shots "hit," as opposed to FSO's smaller, "spazier" shield-hit effects which aren't quite noticable unless you're up close.

You do know that mv_models.vp is 100% optional don't you? If the high poly models cause low frame rates don't use them. Simply use the fix vp's from that thread I started instead of mv_models and you'll be fine.

In fact everything in the media.vp files are completely optional

FSOpen. It actually runs slightly better than normal FS2 on my system. O_o

Although Fred2 Opens bugs are starting to make me hit the monitor...

Make sure any problems you encounter for Fred are also in the database. I will try to find time to look over them problems my OGL code caused.
