HL2 just uses the Havok physics engine though, doesn't it?

I don't think so. I think they use a proprietary physics system built into Source.

Hmm. A bit of googling reveals that apparently they did use Havok, but heavily modified it (or something like that). Ah well.

This is interesting, anyway. Another step closer to realistic water.

I don't care what the gameplay is like. Duke Nukem is retarded.

great things should be allowed to take time. rome wasn't built in one day. it took tolkien 12 years to write lotr, for example.

Can't blame 'em. Wouldn't you want something like DNF to be top of the line?

alot, i'd have to guess, which probably means they will not look too good, having been built off of the old ones instead of just making brand new ones from scratch (that's what developers do)

You know, you really shouldn't put Duke Nukem Forever in the title of a thread.  It really only belongs in a post as a punchline.

Of course, it only took me seven years to figure BUILD out...

To tell you the truth, I am not surprised in the least that the developers are incorporating the realism fad that the popular gaming market seems to be stuck in.  After all, if the mindless masses don't piss their pants at the drop of a hat, why bother marketing something they can't have?

Innovation, not evolution.  Vision, not insight.  Immerse yourself in the experience instead of sterilizing it with obvious details.

It's not coming.  And it's not funny anymore.

Oh and realistic water could be programmed fairly easily today. It's just that it would require extreme amounts of processor power.
Hence the need for a simulation of realistic water.
Mind, there would be little benefit for games for realistic flowing water anyway.
Except maybe Super Mario Bros... :doubt:
