Actually you were getting away with it without annoying me at least :) That said we all know that FS3 is a very remote possibility and we have so much good stuff going on in the community that we don't really have that much to be sad about.
Karajorma's Freespace FAQ. It's almost like asking me yourself.

On that subject though, I like to subscribe to the theory that the Shivan's destruction of Capella was somehow a method for them to get to wherever it is their home is, and they will never return. If you think about it that way, you can accept it as the end of the story, and just accept the fact that the humans will never understand the mysteries of the Shivans. The only thing left to do is rebuild.

Goddamn, I love this game.

Oh but you see, that is where you are wrong.

why don't you update that site or something... geez.

I sincerely hope that nobody does something like that. It'd ruin the whole experience. The veil of mystery is what makes the Shivans such a great enemy. If you came out with an explanation as to what they're all about it'd destroy their image - they wouldn't be scary any more. :)

As for the binary system being the "home" system, almost certainly not. A marshalling area, maybe, or a kind of hub linking the GTVA/Ancient systems from wherever it is they come from, but certainly not their home system. After all, there was a third Knossos portal in that system, and the Ancients certainly wouldn't have been able to build one in Shivan space (by all accounts, the Ancients were wiped out rather quickly, so they wouldn't have had time to build portals or take any territory from the Shivans before they were overrun).

The start of that mission is one of the best moments in the game, though. Scared the living hell out of me.

Raiden, have you played any user-made campaigns yet? If not, I'd highly recommend Derelict and Homesick. Also check out the Hosted projects forums - some very exciting stuff going on there, what with the SCP and everything.

I 100% agree with this. Although I desperately want my questions answered, I also don't want them answered for this very reason.

Although after reading the Shivan Manifesto, I kind of feel that my questions have been answered, which is kind of a weird feeling, in some respects I wish I hadn't read it. Of course, the guy could be completely wrong, but he had a lot of good arguments.

No, I can't say that I have. Currently I'm playing through both games again, and then I'll start getting into the modding community. Thanks very much for the recommendations, I'll be sure to check those out.

A lot of people are bummed about no FS3 and such. I'm actually glad because it gives the community an unlimited amount of time to develop and improve, without thinking things like "Oh I'll wait for FS3 to come out and then I'll start modding".

And as Karajorma mentioned earlier, with Inferno, BWO, and the SCP, I think we are making the new era of Freespace even better than Volition could. The best part is, it is totally community driven and the fans not only have a say in the new improvements, but they are actually making them!

Really? What if a few questions are answered.... And many more questions spawn off of that, actually DEEPENING the mystery of the Shivans?

:welcome: Raiden! :D

If you are looking for Shivans threads, I'd suggest the General Freespace section. There is one called "The Shivans; why do they do what they do?" and many others that cover the community's thoughts on Shivan Motives/Actions etc.

Enjoy your stay! ;)

If your comp can handle it, play Blaise Russel's rewritten/redone Derelict. :D

Well, every user-made campaign will always be a different point of views. If someone made a campaign where you actually get to shivan homespace, while the shivans drink beer all the way, I´d certainly not believe that he got it right. Nothing can be considered an FS3 except FS3 made by [V], which is highly undoubtedly. ;7
