The biggest  thing I hate about the added scenes in ANH is that the '97 CGI sticks out like a bantha in a ewok cannibal party. I mean, some of the poorer quality '77 shots are fine as they were all made with the same restrictions of the time. But when you add poor-quality CGI stuff in to the film all suspension of disbelief is lost.

Oh, and this site proves you the DVD's aren't quite that high-quality as you would think:

-Mos Eisley is now populated by retarded looking dinosaurs.
-Replacement of the wolf man with the wierd reptilian thing (the wolf man, though cheaper, looked better)
-Greedo still shoots
-Gratuitous Boba Fett shot at the end of the Jabba scene.

Advantages would be the nicer color quality, with Luke's training period excluded, the lightsabres, and the Biggs scene.

On the ships, I'm sort of ambivalent. They look better, but in some scenes they just seem a bit off.

...buh? Those aren't DVD changes. They're the special edition changes. I still have the VHS boxset of those.

What can I say? I like the classic Star Wars, which, although a B-movie in every sense of the term, was a classic and well-done B-movie. The additional special effects and additions distract you from the actual storyline and clash with the original film.

Ransom, to tell you the truth I don't really care where the changes are from. I just honestly don't like them.

I have the VHSs - which are probably worth something by now, but anyway, if you want a DVD Star Wars experience but don't want the horror of the "Intended Version," just get the anniversary edition Star Wars :)

And anyway, does anyone else think that Lucas is trapped in the 1930s? The guy is too busy paying "homages" to all the old Buck Roger shows (which are absolutely **** if you've seen them), with all they're multicolored rayguns with big rings around the barrel, than to actually make something cool.

I think you will find that the Light Sabre luke is given is the last one that Anakin will lose before constructing his own under the Emperors tutelage. You may see some sort of explanation in Revenge of the Sith. Wait and see what colour Anakin's schwartz is and see if was genetically passed on ;)

And you leave Buck Rodgers alone, the show may have been crap but the babes were pretty damn fine for the time :p

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Cyan. It's even stranger that Anakin used the exactly same lightsabre in Episodes II and III, but it's BLUE.

One thing that really disturbs me is that the entire starfield has been replaced. Seen left at top is the starfield on the DVD, below is the starfield seen on the Definitive Edition and Widescreen Laserdiscs.

There's only one fix - repainting the entire starfield, star at a time, by hand.

This was truly maddening. I didn't take the time to count as I was doing the painting, but there were tons of stars at various sizes. It took two solid days, but in the end, it lines up star for star with the original plate.

Darkwarrior's would actually make it into the SW TC, though.

Judging from the prequels Lucas' intention was to make a vibrant universe and then cock it up. Looks like the DVD is doing what he intended.

If I remember correctly, the model on the site is the low-poly version. The high-res version has much more bevelled edges. Yes, he's a pro :D

I double-doggie-dare someone to put the high-poly version into FS2. :drevil:

And then use Bobb's animation code to make the S-Foils move.

And make R2 a BFRed turret. :p
