Doesn't work with Optical Mice, no power in a USB/PS2 converter for the light. It has to go in a USB port.

That's odd. My MX310 handles running in a PS/2 port with the USB to PS/2 converter that it was bundled with.

Very pleased with the MX510 that I own.  I won't be replacing this mouse for a good long while. Still, sounds like they really improved it even more.

Although mroe buttons is not always necessary.

Eh, a mouse is a mouse. I got through about 2 a year, and the extra bells and whistles aren't enough to justify the money, since I don't really need them.

I've got an optical mouse plugged into the pS2 port with the adapter just fine as well...

My MX510 (which I am happy with) is plugged into my PS/2 port via an adapter.

The MX518 doesn't have more buttons does it? I thought they(510/518) had the same buttons but the functionality was a tad different?

the only major difference is the 1600dpi res. and fast switching tracking settings.

Do I think it worth replacing an MX510 with, no. Do I love the colour scheme? Hell Yes!

I have an M$ optical mouse that came with an inverter.

I use my memorex mouse. 5 butons is plenty. I use it to go forward and backward on webpages.

Do those LEDs on the buttons work?

I'd love a black mouse with red LEDs that would be the Zone.
Then a black 17" LCD, and a black keyboard with some red LEDs too. And, And and.... and, black case with red LEDs and glow sticks, maybe a blue glow stick to liven things up a bit, and and a dark room with red LEDs and a black Air Condition with a red LED, and and and, a mounted black LCD TV in the wall, which I can see from the computer without straining my neck.

If you're into photoshop or are concerned about ergonomics or play of FPS games or otherwise have useage of a more sensitive mouse then your statement is not true.

I had a MS Optical mouse...it was a decent mouse.  But this one is much finer to the touch and it fits my hand better.  Result is less cramped muscles.  A big bonus.

I have a optical mouse, and it's very keen, but it jitters sometimes.

never get wireless. ever. you'll never need to take your mouse far enough away from your computer that your cord will be a problem anyway, and the batteries run out real quickly.

Wireless mouse's are definitly not very good for gaming. But if your trying to use photoshop or something they are just hell to work with...
I just ran out and picked up a cheap $20 logi optical mouse when the wireless mouse kept giving me the ****s.
