Sure we were. Didn't you hear John Kerry's platform? :p

*derails thread*
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

And next to useless against anyone with any decent form of air defense, even the Iraqis managed to bring one down in the gulf war. part of the reason they're being retired iirc

Hind; most memorable IMO
Comanche was pretty cool looking (if it counts; it was cancelled last year or sometime before); so's the Eurocopter.
If you count them, also the Huey, simply because it's iconic.

On jets - the Harrier first (inherent coolness of VTOL), then the YF-22 (IIRC), and then the SU-2something Flanker (because I had a toy model of it when I was wee).

I must admit, I subscribe to the WWII school of aircraft painting. If I'm up there fighting, I want to be doing it in something with Tigers teeth and Angels wings ;)

it depends on the situation. if I were to use them in such cases of Somalia it would have made a difference. Basically, like many other specialized weapons, they have draw backs.

Sticking with the intended topic I'd have to say the SuperCobra or....

......Sea King!   j/k

As for planes:

Helix...no, just kidding.

Russians build pretty jets (Tu-22M Backfire or even, god help me, the Tu-16 Badger), god-awful fugly helicopters.

Probably the AH-64. Lynx is pretty-looking in the side view, but it's not meant to be an attack helo so it doesn't have the sleekness.

WWII? Probably the A6M or the FW-190.

 And the Su-34 is one damn fine looking jet (although I like Su-37 more), even though I'm not really into jets.

Hmm, I think its the Lynx that holds the speed record though.

It's not an attack copter though, which is disappointing, but it's damn fast! - 192mph

They should ditch the troop carrying capability, and load it up with Hellfires...

I checked that, actually;

Lynx is rated as 256kph, but holds the straight line record at about 302.

Merlin is rated as 309kph.

I'm an F-14 man too..
Extreemly fast, manuverable, good looking, deadly.

I would hardly call it outdated, as it can take on most fighters in the world and come out victorious.
why the heck didn't Grumman continue with the development of the F-14S???:sigh:

From what i understand, one of the main advantages of the F-14 (over the replacement superhornet) is long range; I guess with the advent of ever more powerful cruise / guided missiles launched from subs & destroyers, they don't feel they need the range.

F-14 was nice though; i remember making a Lego model of it when I was about 11, complete with neat working swing-wings.

Assume you're talking about the AC-130s?

They're withdrawal from service is news to me, last I heard they were slated to be fit with some kind of laser based weapon.
