Yep. Seems somehow, someone got my Debit card number, (which I've never used online) and spent 479.00. The fools didn't realize I only had 68.00 in the bank, but I'm still damned pissed that someone got my number.
I don't know how, either, since I've only used it at ~4 stores (I prefer cash) and the last time was around christmas.
I guess one of the employees at one of the stores must have been copying numbers from the data logs on the registers. Either that, or Best Buy, Sears, or Wendy's doesn't handle their records very well, and let it get into the wrong hands.

My mother came into my job today, told me what happened (the bank sent a letter, and called the house) and even got me to get off work 15 minutes early to go to the bank. She had spoken to someone on the phone who said the bank ould be open until 5:00. The bank closed at 4:00. :hopping:

So... I'm going to the bank tomorrow to sort this out. And if I don't get cleared of this, I'll be yelling and screaming. I'll close my account tomorrow, and go to a new bank, and get a new account.

Sucks, though. Sucks verily.

And for all of you; be very careful with these cards! Mine was a debit card, but since the person didn't have my PIN, they used it as credit.

I hear that 500.00 would be considerred grand larceny, so I guess that's why they only spent 479.37 :doubt:

I hate the world. :sigh:

Ah crap. Sorry dude.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Banks come across this all the time, and most cards come with some kind of protection plan against this sort of thing.

Yeah, sounds like you got unlucky with someone unscupulous at one of the headquarters, if it had been in-store it would have probably happened within a day or two of the transaction, it's even possible those logs go into some sort of 3rd party storage facility after 3 months.

The thing that irks me is... how the hell did they get my card number?

I really suspect Best Buy in the mall. It's full of those slimey types, and one of the cashiers even told a customer once that alot of the employees 'were getting fired or arrested.' :sigh:

I should have took that as a sign to pay cash...

Since I studied business law, IIRC, you are only liable up to $50. After that you are not liable for money stolen. Unfortunatly, if you do not realize the theft in a prompt manner you might be liable for the total amount.

The paper mailed to me (telling me I was overdrawn) was dated 3/17.

I only hope this won't mess with the check I sent to my Uni. I had to send a payment for a 'mandatory orientation' and I really don't need this causing my check to bounce.

Phone the finance department at Uni tomorrow and explain to them that someone has accessed your card and that it might bounce, that, at least, will cover you if it does.

what kind of bank do you use, Raa? if it's Washington Mutual, you're gonna have to go through hell to reclaim your money.

It was CharterOne, Cobra...

I spoke with the bank today. Apparently, my money was spent in Madrid, Spain. :wtf:

Some store called 'BIG.' Dunno what that's all about... I guess Flipside was right. Someone higher up, or someone where the records are held got to it.
