The Colossus has been reborn

As a support ship. :D
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

How could a Support ship be called Colossus? Is that the biggest ship in the game? :wtf:

Well, considering Colossus was a Giant who held up the Sky, that's actually a far more appropriate name. And strictly speaking, Colossus wasn't a Giant, he was a Titan, who chose to hold up the sky for eternity rather than get sent to Tantarus.

The Giants were actually the Earths revenge on Zeus for ousting his Father, Chronos, and could be defeated only with the help of Herakles.

Argh, I hate that Colossus even more than the FS2 one. Takes them some stupid amount of time to bring up their fortress shield, and then they say "Oh by the way, they have a long range fortress shield peircing seige laser." And they're 30km away and the Colossus is down to a third hull...

From this, I conclude that anything named the Colossus isn't worth it.

Am I the only one who finds it appropriate the the Colossus also shares its name with the Colossus of Rhodes, a gigantic statue which was also destroyed?

why?  It's even introduced as the '8th wonder' (and the Rhodes one was, of course, one of the original wonders of the ancient world).

Seems eminently plausible to me.

It could be named after the HMS Colossus, which survived several battles before sinking in a gale?

Wasn't the mission called the 6th wonder?

Don't think so.  6th wonder would be a strange name, wouldn't it?

Mission SM1-08.fs2 was indeed called The Sixth Wonder.

I'm pretty certain the Colossus was named after the Colossus of Rhodes. The name of the mission shows that [V] were definately aware of the 7 wonders. (Although by the name of the mission they appear to have believed that there were five of them :D )

It was... I remember it being titled "The Sixth Wonder."

Oh well, it doesn't matter. It was crap anyway :doubt:
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Hmm... furry muff :)

Still find it an odd name, though - were the Ancient Wonders numbered?

the Nexus Colossus was a extreemly usefull and durable ship. one the Fortress shield got up, only a siege laser could pierce it.
It can allso carry more AA guns than any other ship and can be equipped with some heavy weapon.

Falls short of a battleship in firepower, but with 4 anihhhilatoir missile launchers....oh boy! Loved those blinding blasts!
