Brothers in arms:Road to hill 30 impression.
Sorry to post 2 rants in one day, but...
Somehow i managed to get my FX5600 working again. Although not much, it is still an improvement over the Matrox.

So, i installed Brothers in arms, hoping i would see a good game, like MOHAA or something. Boy, was i in for a shock!
The voice acting sounds like something you would find on some lame flash movie over the net. The weapons sound like they are firing paintballs, or BBs. I had to laugh. I was laughing because fortunally i wasn´t dumb to have bought it. Thank god for P2P!
Anyway, it´s not the game being bad that pissed me off, it was the 9/10 point reviews it got! Gamespot atributed it 9 out of 10, outscoring even Doom3.  What´s wrong with their reviewers? Are they insane?
Not only the game is bad, it is also so buggy that i broke in laughter when i came across some of them. Especially when i saw one of my team mates kneel down, and then "glide" away for 50 feet, while firing the gun, like he had kneeled down on a skate board. I laughed my behind off, until i realized i wasn´t amuzed at all. Then i stoped laughing...
:blah:
Guys, if you like WW2 games, and you plan on buying this, i strongly suggest you try it out first. Grab a demo, or do as i do and "acquire" it. Don´t go and buy it outright, you´ll be sorry.

My review of the game:
-Graphics:  5 out of 10. (game looks like a year 2000 game)
-Gameplay: 6 out of 10  (average control, nothing out of the ordinary.
-Sound:      4 out of 10  (my BB gun sounds better than that)
-Replay value: non existant. (i´m not planning on playing it again, so the replay value is null)
-Voice acting:  4 out of 10. (only the main caracter voice acting is slightly better)
-Bugs:         10 out of 10. (perfect score here)
-Story:        ? out of 10. (too early to say)

Average score: 5 out of 10. It´s hard to believe this game comes from the publishers of titles like FarCry and Splinter Cell.
:doubt:
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

I'm sorry Swamp_Thing, have we been playing the same game?

Brothers in Arms has quite good voiceactors who actually fill the part. They sound like they would be talking to their friends, you can hear their emotions in their voice, which is necessary in this type of game. Once hell breaks loose they shout like soldiers would on a battle situation. Of course, if you were expecting overdramatic voice acting then I won't wonder why you are giving such low scores for this area.

Weapon sounds have been recorded from the original sources. Of course, I haven't shot a single round with M1 Garand or MG-42/38 so I don't know how it sounds like in real life. Still, I have quite decent speakers plus subwoofer and they have that feel of power in their sounds.

About the story. If you are expecting epic historical missions like in Medal of Honor series (Omaha Beach, Operation Market Garden etc.) then this game is not clearly for you.

Sure, it suffers from cross platforming but Gearbox has succeeded to make a game which is fun to play, and that is what matters the most.

Brothers in Arms is one of the best (if not the best) WWII game I have ever played. And yes, I have played both Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Call of Duty on PC.

However, this is a matter of taste. And I don't want to start any arguments over matters of taste. If I like the game it doesn't mean that everyone else should.

Ever think that maybe if your game is stolen pirate booty, there's a possibility that it might not be of the highest quality?

No, i don´t think that. In over 5 years using the stuff they provide, i never once got stuck with a low quality copy. The original quality is all there, it´s just that the game itself is lacking.
This is not a rip, it´s a clone copy.
Note however that all i said is STRICTLY my opinion. If some of you like trhe game, that´s your opinion. In mine, the game isn´t worth the score it is getting.

@Darkblade

You should at least try all the other Medal of Honour episodes, before you make that claim. By comparison to say Pacific Assault, the voices are trully horrible, lacking any conviction. The actors seem to just be reading the lines out of the script, without lending the text any emotion whatsoever.
But maybe i´m just too perfectionist.

The Demo movie looks pretty bloody good to be honest, even if the music does start off sounding a little bit Freespacey ;)

My favorite VA parts...  cause they sound pretty silly actually...

"TAAAURRGEEETS!!"
"I Got 20/20 Eyes, no use in hiding!"

BIA is based upon fire and maneuver tactics, as you've probably heard about in the E3 video. I think it's a great game if you're all about tactical stuff.  I've been playing it for a little bit and I'm actually doing quite well in it, but it's pretty darn good for what it is.
For me, it's not as immersive as Call of Duty was for me.  Even on the new expansion pack, I played the demo of that and was blown away.  BIA really didnt do it for me like CoD does, but it's a nice change to having control over teammates, tanks and other stuff.

I have tried Pacific Assault and other Medal of Honors on PSX and PS2, mostly because I'm a sucker for Michael Giacchinos music although this does not concern Pacific Assault since it has a different composer. :)

But guess it is one opinion. In my ears I can hear everything what is needed from a good voice actor. Oh well, I probably should record new voices to the game. :D
