Remember when Adobe bought CoolEdit 2000, renamed it to "Adobe Audition", and tripled the price?

Let's not be surprised if history repeats itself.

Eugh, I hate "light" versions of anything. I consistently get the feeling they're unsupported.

Makes me sad to know with a merge like this will not only reduce competition but also make a lot of people lose their jobs.

I don't like this.

Macromedia and Adobe products have always had distinct features in their applications that separate them from each other and put their programs ahead of the rest in the IT industry. I just hope something good comes out of this

I've never liked Macromedia and their total disregard for user interface conventions in their programs. For example, I have Flash open, and an item in the library panel selected. I scroll the mouse wheel, which, one would think, would scroll the list of items in the library panel. But nooooo, it scrolls the main document!

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I don't have that problem with Flash MX, it just doesn't scroll vertically in the library panel but it does scroll horizontally

After re-reading Sandwich's article and reading other sources I've come to see that its not really a merge of Adobe and Macromedia, its actually an acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe. Apparently they might  drop some titles that are currently in Macromedia's portfolio.

Heres a good source to check out: http://www.kottke.org/05/04/adobe-macromedia-acquisition-roundup
