I'm trying to do frameworks before drawing the flesh and all... still incofortable with it but I find this technique very useful. I'll be ok drawing with it if I practice with it!

Pictures comin up soon...

drawing skeletons always helps. normally i wouldn't say this, but i recommend copying things, photographs, other people's works that you really like, to learn technique. if you're sitting in class, try to draw the teacher or other students, whatever gets you seeing the shapes.

that's how i learnt/am learning. lots and lots of copying.

Hey drawing the teacher how a good idea! I never thought of it before! I'll try that! Oh I already copyed a photography on pastel, but the big sheet doesn't fit in the scanner lol!

I done a couple of sketches.

Some kind of animal that I did not find the name.

Kind of "remix" from the first "Elise" sketch. I didn't really like it tho...

This one I done it at school with a HB pencil, hard to erase so you see where I erased lol!

That's it for now!

I like the bottom one!

Here... got some pics ready! Most of them are drawn at school again! Many of them are drawn on the back of an old exam sheet. There:

A little movement exercise... with the framework method

Framework method used there too. Needed to lower the eyes again, but with the crappy eraser I had for this one, (see all the dark spots), it was better to let them there.

Another movement sketch. Used with the framework method too (I think I start to like it :p

Yet another "angel"

Progressing slowly! But I don't give up!

Ok:

1st Pic- You're falling into the Pyramid Nose trap. The nose should not be that kind of triangle, instead the bottom should be more flat (Not completely flat, mind, just not diagonal like that). You killed the forehead, too. The wings are looking much better, but you might need a little work blending some of the lines between the feathers and the "arm." So far, everthing else seems to be progressing well with this one.

2nd pic- Face, again. The mouth should be a tad closer to the Nose, and the nose ever so slightly less triangular. The bent leg is connected to her body in the wrong area, as well (hope you don't mind, but I edited your pic a bit to help demonstrate. If you want this gone, just say it):

Red is your current position. Green is a more accurate position.

Note: The right foot should actually be about even with the Left knee. I was a bit to lazy to edit it fix my mistake there :doubt:

...I'll shut up, now.

as you can see, simply putting the eye half way up the head drastically improves the face.

Nice tips there Jetmech! No need to shut up!

Hey no comments about the last 2 pics... does this means they are something good?

3rd Pic: Not sure how to critique this one. The bodies seem bent in slightly unnatural ways, and the shape of the feet could use some better proportions and shape.

4th Pic: Head= MUCH better than most of the Side-views.

Body= Could use some work. In relation to the Head, the Body is way, way too small. The position of the feet might need some work too, I.E. shift them around a little. They're both pointing forward while the rest of his body is facing slightly to the left, and it looks a little off.

4th pic is the best so far.

what i would recommend is forget toons and anime style for the moment. work on real people, photo copying. once you can get a rough good _accurate_ sketch of real people, you can mutate it into any toon style you want because cartoons are based on real proportions.

lots and lots of photocopying work. by hand. don't get creative or inventive, just copy things- that's much better for your technique than trying to be imaginative and screwing up the proportions and all. it may not be interesting but it sure as hell helps

You've come along very nicely Pyro. :)

I'd agree with what icespeed said.
4th pic is much better, especially the face. Your wings have also improved.

Just drawing RL scenes can be a great way to practice the minor techniques that get lost in a large imaginative drawing. Just sketching out the corner of a room, or a sleeping dog or cat can teach you how to add the subtle shadows and details.

Good work, keep at it! :D

'Had to get a new eraser (lost the other one) and clean up my desk 2 days ago... too much eraser debris on it lol!

I did this before goin' copying some work... I did the head a bit too big unfortunately.

Guess who it is... it's me actually. The photo I had was pretty dark and only contained the fae so the only thing "true" in this pic is my face. Did the left hand too small too.

Right, this is not meant to be discouraging, but on the most part, I think you can judge for yourself how good something is; you don't need to post _everything_ you draw up here. I'm hoping you're not. Bring us the best samples and we'll tell you where you're going wrong.

It's like music practice. If you've ever learnt any musical instrument, you'll know that you don't get your friends around to listen to your every practice; you practice at home, locked in your room or whatever, until you get something good. _Then_ is the time to showcase it to your friends. Similarly with your art stuff. Seriously 80% of the stuff I produce I would be ashamed to show you guys (not that that's why I draw, I draw because I like it). So I don't, I go back to the drawing board (literally) and try something else.

So... go practice, in your own time, and bring us the good stuff. This is not, i repeat _NOT_, meant to be discouraging you, and it's not that we don't want to see your stuff. It's just that we don't want to see every single thing you turn out.

Faces are always a pain to draw.

The last one is better.  Just keep trying, you'll get in the end.;)
...There ought to be something surreal about a Zoid offering romantic advice...and yet there is not. It seems perfectly normal that the Liger is giving Bit advice on relationships, and it shouldn't, but it does. Dangit man, you've confused me again.[/I]

the chick's not bad. her thumb looks like a finger. work on your foreshortening.

i don't think the guy's head is so much too long as too skinny sideways-wise.

don't overuse the shading, otherwise not too bad.
