You can cycle through the Daily, Weekly, and Monthly lists, but in all cases, this story comes out on, or close to, the top of the "Most Emailed" articles list.

But that's not all! In the article, there's a line that reads:

[q]Nine out of 10 people thought colleagues who answered messages during face-to-face meetings were rude, while three out of 10 believed it was not only acceptable, but a sign of diligence and efficiency.[/q]

So, 9 out of 10 people think it's rude, while the other (???) 3 out of 10 think that it's not only acceptable, but commendable!

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Possibly the three out of ten were checking their e-mail at the time, and so answered yes to both questions by accident?

I read that.. apparently using Email and phone text services causes a noticable drop in your IQ.

I'm kinda curious as to how that comes about. It seems no different to using a word processing package etc.

Bingo.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

I can actually read that, my IQ must be in the low 70's or something.

I think they're talking about an effective drop in IQ caused by people constantly stopping work to check email etc.

I assume they mean that the lack of concentration caused by e-mail is much higher than that caused by lack of sleep or even smoking pot. Quite how that is translated to IQ points is beyond me :)

We have a hell of a problem with Teenagers writing in Textspeak, which is fine for texts, but when you get a Finance report with lines on it like....

'2 Balence u need 2 sutract outgong frm incum', I start worrying... these are the people that work out my wages!

but rude isn't an opposite of acceptable, diligence or efficiency. one can be efficient and diligent and still be rude. so basically, they think the people are *******s, but efficient *******s.

"Rude" and "acceptible" may not be opposites, but they are pretty much exclusive, especially when you're asking about someone's opinion on human behavior.

If you are doing 2 things at once, you are only applying 50% of your concentration to each, therefore doubling the chance of making a stupid mistake. I can't see how that can be efficient.

I for one accept peoples right to be rude. I'm quite brusque myself, so I tend to overlook other peoples character flaws until I punch them in the face.

but then again, it could be that while they think it's rude, they accept it because they while eventually suffer brain damage from that iq loss they will have.
