Anyone going to buy it?
It sounds pretty cool, but I dunno if I want to fork over $50 right now...

I've played the Beta Events and it's a real good game IMHO. Best of all there is no monthly fee to play. :)

Some screens I've taken:

Correct.  Just pay for the box and then possibly content patches every 6 months.

Translates to being the same in the end.

Aren't the content patches optional?

Also, I'd be more interested in this game if it was more of a roaming MMORPG like WoW, but they still have the mission-based gameplay right?

AFAIK, the expansions (what Jeryko listed as content patches) are optional.

  • In the morning!
I'd love to try a 5-10 day trial before I plunk down cash on this.  I was mildly impressed with Lineage II in beta, but as the people came forth and made the towns nearly impossible to walk through, I couldnt stand playing it.
From what I gathered from guildwars's site, you dont need to buy the expansion packs later on, you'll still be able to be just as "comptetitive" as the rest of the players, you just dont get to see the cool stuff.
Kinda like Planetside when Core Combat (yuk) came out.  Heh, I remember, everyone was still up top with minimal crews underground getting the artifiacts that add bonus stuff.

I got in on one of the beta weekends, and I wasn't too impressed. To me, it seemed a lot like diablo 2, but without the frenzied action and save-the-world storyline. All that you had access to were series of quests, which were basically long, mostly linear dungeon crawl type things (even if most weren't in dungeons) facing only a few baddies at a time.

Trashman, make your own I did (warrior for fighting abilities and use monk for healing, boom holy warrior= paladin in this game)

ranger/monk was an ok translation for my wildernesss bow wielding priest.

Necromancer/elementalist was ok for my Necromancer (and also represent the rest of general magic)

There is no thief class at present.... also the only race is human.. this should be fixed in expansion packs later (per race I would wager)... also my BIGGEST pet peeve, no DUEL WIELDING ABILITY!!! WTF I have tons of D&D charcters who specilize in some sort of 2 weapon combo either sword and shiled (bash) long short blade, blunt and blade, hell even one with duel chains. there are soo many tactical combinations and options warriors can take advantage of (piercing/slashing/blunt) and in this game it woudl benefit cause their damage type MATTERS!!

I got GW yesterday, and I must say that I'm impressed. It's the only Online RPG I've played for the simple reason that I don't like monthly fees. GW got me interested because of the no-fees business.

Plus, it looks nice. :D
