I know this is SUPER off topic but what the hell. Its the Hard Light section, not the FreeSpace forums.

This topic is about the new game from Westwood Studios called Emperor: Battle for Dune. I thought why not start a small topic about the game for people here who play it.

To start it off, I would like to bring to your attention the different House and sub Houses.

Which of the three Houses is your favourite? Is it the noble Atreides, the insidious Ordos or the evil Harkonnen? Which of the sub Houses are your favourite? House of Ix, House Teilaxu(sp?), the Sardaukar, the Fremen?

For me, I prefer the Atreides. Lots of firepower to throw at the enemy. Especially the Atreides Minotarus. Long range and high damage.

As for sub Houses, I prefer having the Sardaukar and the Fremen.

Atredies, Fremen and either the Ix or the Sardukar.

In the last Atredies mission, I cleaned out half the enemy installations using a Sardukar and Fremen hit team.  The Fremen would nail any infantry taking them completely by surprise, lure them back to the Sardukar which would then deal with vehicles, aircraft, and whatever else was thrown around, and then proceed on.

I kinda like the Ordos as well, although not so much as the Atredies.

Harkonen I dislike so far.

ARRGGHHHH!! I didn't even know the game was out yet.... I hate the delay that translating the manuals into Hebrew incurs here...

Hehehe......so far, I'm 70 percent deep in Ordos territory. Haven't touched the Harkonnen yet. I hate the Ordos because of their Kobra Tanks.

I still prefer the Sardaukar and Fremen combination. But never use the Sardaukar Elites to fight the shielded Ordos tanks. Both of them get blown up.

By the way, does anybody know how to return veteran units to their respective barracks or factories?

Harkonnen?! I find that the Harkonnen have been weaken some what. Their Inkvine Catapult does not do much damage. In my opinion, they only good Harkonnen units are the Flame Tank and their airborne unit. Forgot what its called.

The Devastator is too slow. Lots of firepower but far too slow for my tastes. If you want speed and firepower, I rather go with the Atreides Minotaurus. Four long range cannons with a nice splash damage.

As for the Sardaukar, they're the best!!! Next to the Fremen of course.

The Harkonnen may have been weakend but they're still Evil, i like going the bad guys its more fun, i have also taken the role of an evil god in Black & White, now that is classic game.

Hmmm... so tell me before I go spend money on the game when it DOES come out here, how does it compare to, say, Total Annihilation for it's time? (I know, hard to beat no matter WHAT time, but that's why I'm asking...   )

IMO after Total Annihilation the only two good RTS games have been Warzone 2100, and to a much much larger extent: Homeworld. All of Westwoods offerings (not counting Battle for Dune, haven't played it yet) have been pretty much the same, and whilst some say "why change a good thing?" you can tell that little effort has been put into really advancing the genre. I'll try the demo of Dune, as its Westwoods first spinny-rotaty™ 3D accelerated offering - I just hope they get back into the act of advancing a slightly stale genre.

If any of you have read the PC Zone review of battle for dune it is spot on, the engine is poor very little detail on the units, its your bog standard stragey game, cheesy FMV. On the plus side, Brillant music, multiplayer, sub houses. This game could have been better and it felt rushed to me, well thats my opinion. just hope Warcraft3 blizzards 1st 3d strat game isn't crap.

I couldn't agree with you more - with the slight exception of WarZone 2100 maybe. I started to play it and got sidetracked by something else... I think maybe FS2...  

But have you tried Earth 2150? It's quite excellent - the 3d unit animations are out of this world.

believe me, it's not crap, it's so beautifull you can't believe it (ok, like everything shown at the E3 this year...).

I saw the screenshots for Warcraft 3. They are not bad. But a lot of ny friends hope if Blizzard Entertaiment does Starcraft 2, they don't do it in 3D.

Just saw the E3 preview of War3 and jesus those FMV's are beautyfull, there the best ones i've seen for a PC game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why NeoHunter do you want starcraft2 if its been made to be 2D?
