I may be moving...
I dont know whether to be hyped or bummed.  Too long have I been living in this wretched armpit of a city called Sacramento, even though I have grown acustomed to the benefits.  I've lived here pretty much all of my life, and it may be time for a change.

The family and I are looking into an isolated private community on the very edges of Lodi.  There, lies a quiet, yet fun manufactured home park.  It is much more affordable than the same type of home in Sacramento, so it definately caught our eye.  There are many pros and cons to this location, which leave me in an uncomfortable position.

The great things about this home is that the air is clean, the crime is literally zero, and housing costs are low.  Along the side of the home park is a marina, a medium sized golf course, tennis courts, soccer fields, and publicly run farmlands.  The amount of recreation options are astounding from just a five minute walk.

However, this all comes at a price.  Aside from the home park, there are no residential or commercial structures for eight miles.  That's right, a developed suburbia smack dab in the middle of nowhere.  Driving will be a costly venture, as the closest real grocery store is 11 miles away, hospital is 18 miles away, and gas prices are at $2.69/gallon.  Furthermore, the said area is unfamiliar to me, and it is very complex.  Also, it's a new place and I am a bit nervous as to the lifestyle changes we will be making over the course of the next three weeks.  Most importantly, as far as internet is concerned, Satelite broadband is my only option :(.

Oh well.  I suppose this will be a valuable experience for me.  Perhaps this change will cause me to actually get a life, and make some worth.  But I know that after the end of the week, you might not see me for a while.

I honestly don't know what to say, or what to think :blah:.

Good luck man!  I think you're headed for better territory.  The clean air and access to all those extra amenities will surely offset the loss.

I've been stuck in a very nice place for quite some time.  Even for Uni I lived at home...its right around the corner and it has the best program for me.  But a change is definately in store in the next few years when I'm more financially stable.  You get to start fresh...do it all again.  We all go through that a few times in our life...cherish the change when you hate it the most.  Mourn the loss and accept the gains...

I'm sure if its a new suburb...it won't take long for broadband to arrive.  Maybe not right away or for the next 6 months or a year, but its probably coming soon!

Good luck!

Is Satelite Broadband really that bad? Don't think I've come across that term before.

That area sounds great, man. I was actually smiling as I read it! The crime being zero thing is great, here in dirty old London, that's like a dream come true...

What about biking? If you just want to go see a movie, it'd be a good way to go without spending money for gas and get exercise at the same time.

If you're shopping for groceries, or have a broken leg, it may be a little less practical to get to the grocery store or hospital. ;)

Lodi is pretty cool. Kind of a quiet town, but pretty looking. Plus, you're not far from that Swiss theme park town or whatever... Soveland or something? I haven't been there since I was ten.

2,69$ per gallon. That's 0,71$ per liter, making it 0,56€ per liter.

*sighs*

I'd do it, as I'm used to taking some distances in everyday business. Plus the advantage of "nice" surroundings rules out many disadvantages it might have.

Good luck with it. It'll be much better for you than the city anyway - I think you'll notice the difference after a few weeks. And if it's safer/quieter etc. then that's even better.

And those fuel prices really aren't that bad. We pay £.085 - £1 per litre here, which is pushing US$2....

I pay 1,20€ per liter. That's more than 5$ per gallon. Makes me sick - and poor. But let's stop spamming his thread. ;)

Oh come on, Scuddie.  We know the real reason you are moving from Sacramento.  You want to escape your neighbours' radio wave attacks.
