If you can't tell from the unusual name, the extraoridnarily low post count, or the registration date, I'm brand new to these wonderful forums.  I hope to add a lot to this place and provide as much useful information as possible.

so... hi!
How are doing?

PS.
If this forum doesn't like these kinds of post and consider them spam, then I will be eternally sorry. I know some forums i belong to hate these "hello" posts.

I know it gets annoying, but since it's tradition to fry newbs with beams....

thanks for the *warm welcome* with the laser beams.

Actually, unlike my bad jokes, the beam thing isn't that annoying.

Welcome to the HLPBB! Exits are to your left and right. Please refrain from opening airlocks while someone is nearby. In the event of a forum invasion, flamethrowers are located under your seat. Occasionally these are filled with water, so please help yourself to the old shotguns located in the weapons lockers nearby. If you're crawling through the ventilation ducts and you see what looks like a giant three legged spider, give him your lunch. If it's enough, he'll leave you alone.
Welcome to HLP and enjoy your stay. Keep your hands, legs, and tentacles inside the station at all times, and please do not feed the trolls.

Well then, I'm assuming you've played the Freespace games... since you're new to the community, tell us what you liked about them, why don't you? We don't bite. Much.

Too many victims have fallen to the closed thread titled "Freespace 3???" as their first post...

I am one of the lucky ones.  I never got to be fried by those beams when I was new.

DONT KILL ME!!! I HAVE TOO MANY POSTS TO BE CONSIDERED NEW!

I was fortunate. My first posts were before FS2 was out ;)

Again thanks for the warm welcome.

I bought FS1 a few years ago along with the silent threat expansion and have been playing them every since.  I grew up playing Doom and Wolf3d, and then played Descent 2 and 3, and those sort of led me into Freespace.  I've been a sucker for SciFi and especially space combat SciFi since I was a wee little thing.  If you were to ask me "what is your favorite part of Freespace?" I honestly couldn't respond with just one answer. The truth is, I love FreeSpace.   I've been browsing these forums for the past few days and decided I should join and try to contribute back a little from the knowledge I've taken away with me.

Oh, man. My story is basically the same as yours, except I miraculously had FS from the day it came out. Doom and Wolfenstein, yeah, definitely played those growing up. Descent 2 was where it was at for me.

I like the Shivans.

Exits are to your right and left, and flamethrowers are under your seat. Be careful, though, as they are sometimes filled with water. If this is the case, try to club someone with the non-working shotguns in the weapon closet. Also, be careful while wandering the ventilation shafts, because sometimes Carl the Shivan lurks in there. If you happen to come across him, just toss him your lunch and hope that it satisfies him. If it doesn’t… pray. In the event of an emergency, you can and will be used as a flotation device.  The Plasma rifles in the forward locker are released only under authorization of an Admin, [V] God, and/or hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. Oh, and whatever you do, don't hit on Tiara, no matter how good of an idea it might seem.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

I think my first posts were looking for texture artists. Not sure what self-respecting texture artist would have worked on my early ships though...

EDIT: Seems I was wrong. My first posts were pimping Operation: Underground. Don't look at them though. The n00b-ness is too horrible.

Welcome, Roberto - enjoy your stay (if you managed to survuve the hail of beam cannon fire, that is). Be sure to check out the SCP forum and the campaigns/modding forums for all manner of groovy new stuff. The "Best model ever competition" thread (it's in the Highlights at the top) is a great place to start. :)
