Agreed. As long as you don't try to understand the plot(true to the game roots, confusing from start to finish) it's a total blast. I WANT one of those futuristic Humvee-type things...

If it's true to the game, do you also have to play it/watch it for at least 100 hours to get all the subplots in it?

I saw the preview. It so far looks amazing - the effects are brilliant. Can anyone say render farms?

Hangin' out for it.

Well, Final Fantasy has already opened here in Singapore. I'm definitely going to catch it!!!

But most of the publicity about the movie is going to Dr Aki Ross though. Even the local magazine here has a picture of Aki in a string bikini that was said to be featured on the front cover of Maxim!!! Seems another Final Fantasy movie is in the works too. Different story and charaters.

Oh yeah. It is also rumored that the Dr Aki Ross will be like any normal actress. She will not be restricted to just being Aki Ross or just in Final Fantasy movies but may also be in other 3D movies as well!!!

Way to go!!!!!!Eeeehawwwww!!!!!

Japanese usually have awesome ship designs in their movies ( anime I mean ). Many of my ships are inspired from there. Mhh, one day I'll do the Captain Harlock's Arcadia...

I didn't really think it was that confusing at all, and you certainly don't need to watch it more than once for plot elements. Really the ONLY thing from the movie that connected it to any of the Final Fantasy game titles was the name of Dr. Cid. Nothing about any of the other characters/weapons/ships/story bore any resemblance whatsoever to any of the FF games. Cid shows up one way or another as a scientist/airship builder in every one of the Final Fantasy titles, he's even a playable character in VII

Seems like the smart move to me. I hear the movie budget got up to $140 million, so I imagine reusing the character could save a lot of money in the next one.

Well, and i'll bet that through some easy modifications to things like hair length and base skin color/eye color/hair color it wouldn't even be that obvious.

I have to agree with you. They had nice designs in Macross and many other animes.

mmh, I didn't think of macross lol, that's quite common designs (space planes).
Ships like in Sol Bianca are really impressive (even if the anime itself is quite dull).

Are you talking about the new Sol Bianca anime or the origional? I would agree that the new ones, although fantastically pretty, are not very well written. The origionals are much better. It's too bad they didn't make more of them, but you'll have that when the director gets thrown in jail for narcotics trafficing =P
I've been thinking about trying to make a model of the Sol Bianca. It'd be a pretty big challenge because the ship is so complex and curvy, but it might be fun.

Back to Final Fantasy: Can anyone confirm that this is a computer generated face and not a real one? I can't - not just by looking at it.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Nooo..... I KNOW it's CG, but what I want to know is if anyone can visually tell the difference.

yeah, when you know it, you can say that it's a cg, but now, I can't see if you could have told if you never heard about FF...
It's perfect.
Does someone has seen the Diablo2 cutscenes? the result is very closed (and even more in the addon, that's just... "drool", like everybody says)

Wow - this dude, too... his lack of expression gives it away, but the detail... bristles on chin and cheeks, randomness of the hair patterns, even scars and various skin marks... amazing. But the ears look wrong, somehow... Oh, I see the problem: The ear on the right of the pic has a different skin tone than the face or other ear - probably a glitch in the lighting.

I can tell, the link you put up. As good as a fake as it is. It is pretty clear to me that it's fake. Skintone, for one, is a little too peachy. Yes, I know some people have real pink skin, I even know a tub-o-lard who is practically red   , but theres just something about that face that screams "Close, but no cigar."

{edit: I was referring to the girl. The guy is good too, but again, It's fake.}
