Yes, but now I feel compelled to check it out, resulting in yet more strain on my bandwidth and hard disk space.

Plus I'm in the middle of exams, so I'm supposed to be working.... :nervous:

Take that. Reverse it. Centurions is the newer of the two.

EDIT: All this and I forget to reply to Nico...

I have no grievences against BattleTech, because the creators sought permission to make use of the images of the Glaug along with various Valkyries and Destroids (plus several other mecha from rather obscure animes) for the Marauder, Phoenix Hawk, Stinger, Wasp, Locust, Ostscout, etc.

If anything, I'm mad at Harmony Gold for abruptly (and, I might add, in breach of contract) revoking FASA's license to them.

Exosquad did NOT seek permission, and there was a large stink about it including legal action by FASA.

...that's nuts. Centurions had a newer style of animation, Exosquad was older, grittier-looking.

Thing is, they asked Harmony Gold, not the original authors, and I'm not convinced HG was entitled to take that decision.

Anyway, give me a Macross anyday over those, coz nostalgia is one thing, but it has to be quality nostalgia :p
That said, over old things like that I take a Vandread anyday, too.

One of my favorite shows *ever*. It was a short-lived series that was called off way before it's time. I have been searching everywhere for the episodes, to either purchase or download, and I was never succesful, until the other day when I found this, http://www.smartbombstudios.com/public/Exosquad/

Word of warning, the video quality is sketchey at best, which is a shame beacause the series has some awsome space battles. But, in that very link, you got all 52 episodes. I suggest that everyone who is a fan of good television give it a try.

Bugger me.  I had (may even still have, all that stuff resides in the loft) a couple of toy robot thingies from that of those I bought on holiday in the states (I'd have been about 11 or 12, I guess)... although i never saw the cartoon.

Wondered for ages what they were from (having obviously chucked the packaging away).

EDIt; and yon centurions thing, now I think of it.... ah, the memories.

What set aside Macross in my eye is the whole 'novelty' of transformable mecha - especially since there was a sensible and deep running plot beside the whole 'p0wnage' of heavy metal mayham.

This is also the reason why I love the original Gundam Trilogy (the movies are tons better than the series) - it had battles with coreography way ahead its time, and characterisation unheard of.

However what I really miss is a realistic 'mecha' show - Gasakari came quite close, but it was too inteligent and clever to be a real hit.
"I was going to become a speed dealer. If one stupid fairytale turns out to be total nonsense, what does the young man do? If you answered, “Wake up and face reality,” you don’t remember what it was like being a young man. You just go to the next entry in the catalogue of lies you can use to destroy your life." - John Dolan

The words "realistic" and "mecha" do not belong in the same sentence*....

I think so, it was the one with the kids, right? All I remember is the pilot episode and it was on a snow planet and had some dinosaur-like creatures.

Yea, I think that's it! :D

Anyway, yea, the people who made Macross either asked or stole (I think asked and got permission) to use some Battletech designs - and the other way around. There's actually some "lost" Battletech mecha that could fly and looked almost exactly like valkries :)

I was wondering, when was battletech created? The original Macross mangas (and macross mecha designs) were released in 1980. If I'm not mistaken, FASA celebrated both their closure and their 20th anniversary in 2001 (so that would bring it back to 1981, which is close, but still later), so it's not really possible that the Macross guys copied the Battletech ones.
