Supreme Commander. And though I've never played Total Anhilliation, the perspective did seem to me to be very wierd indeed.

Nope.  

It's by the same guy as made the original, and it'd be a direct sequel if not for the nagging issue of trademark ownership (hmm.... sounds a common problem).

Its from the same guys who created the original.  Thats why its considered the spiritual sucesssor.  It can't be called TA2 because the rights are held by other companies but it can be very much a sequel.

We'll see how it works out.  I always thought the C&C series was better than the TA series but we'll see.

Never Played TA myself.

I still think the 3d looks crappy. When it comes to the little tanks and such, you can't even tell whether they're 2d, or 3d.

The terrain also looks dull.

the original Total Annihilation was technically 3d too... it used 3d models and landscape, but it looked very 2d because you had one camera angle and not the greatest lighting. Looks the same here. I loved the TA though and I will definately buy this one.

One question though, how am I supposed to buy this game now, if it doesn't come out until 2006(on the first image).

Personally I prefer to have a fixed top-down camera, spinny rotatey 3D ones have only ever meant fiddling to get a good angle on the action. There wasn't really a TA 'series' as such Ice, as Kingdoms wasn't made by the original team as Chris Taylor had already left Cavedog by then.

Personally I hope the non-rock/paper/scissors balance will be left in, and that tactics and not just unit type will determine the success of individual battles. Hopefully most individual units won't need micromanaging with 'special abilities' (a la Starcraft) either... although it'd be cool to have heroes with them in there.

You know, as much as I enjoyed the original - this just doesn't look that good. It may be the textures or lighting, I'm not quite sure... I mean the scale looks pretty impressive and all, but the graphics just look a tad poor.
