Wiccans and witches are two different things. Some witches are wiccans, and some wiccans are witches, but not all wiccans are witches and not all witches are wiccans. And anyway, most of those people you see in the black robes are just goths.
But Rictor, I am one of those Wiccans you see on the streets - but I dress in tan cargo pants and a bright orange shirt.
Anyway, you don't have to dress in blacka nd act all gothy to be a wiccan and/or a witch. It's just a lot of people do because they think it's a requirement. It's the Wiccan/witch version of a poser.
..understanding of wicca is that each practicioner is in essence their own leader
This is mostly correct, unless someone is in a coven. But for the most part, that is true.
wicca is of course a recent form of paganisim or neo-paganisim as its often refered.
That is true - however, both wiccans and non-wiccans alike make the mistake that Wicca and other neopagan religions are just like their ancient counterparts - not so. They have changed, much like any other religion. Most ancient beliefes are based on the location of that group of practitioners. Nowadays, it is a more global religion, taking bits and pieces from other religions.
as a matter of rights anyone with respect of pro choice should by default respect anothers choice of religion o choice to become a religious leader.
Also true. Wicca, specifically, is very acceptig of other religions and viewpoints - one of the reasons (besides the belief system) that I converted to it.
Nuke, do you practice any form of paganism? I'm just curious, you seem to be pretty knowledgable of the field.
EDIT: And by the way, I do believe that by the technical definition, a pagan is someone who does not practice Christianity. Which makes everyone, including Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc, pagans, does it not?
Anyway, that's not the point of the thread.
