Anyone seen the Quake 4 E3 2005?
I've seen it and it looks amazing. Anyone one else look at it? Comments about it?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Meh, sure it looks good... But I think I'll stick to Halo and Half Life to satisfy my FPS needs.

That's unfortunate.  Hopefully the mechanics will be refined this time around.

No, I haven't seen it, but I've seen some internet screenshots and trailers. What made Quake and Quake 2 so special anyway?

This is not a signature.
You did not see this.
It was all a dream.
You will not tell anyone about this.

Now go and read this signature again.

So, you actually bothered to scroll down, eh? If you're that bored, you might as well take a look at the links above.

Well Quake was sort of special as it was the first true 3D shooter.  The rest were considered "2d and a half" and were all sprites and stuff.

The rest were sort of mediocre...

It uses the Doom 3 engine, and so far looks exactly like a Doom 3 clone. If the gameplay of the previous Quake's stay, it will be basically Doom 3 in a different box. I hope they do something to differentiate it.

At least there'll be vehicles and some more weapons (I hope).

There was a full-on preview in PC Gamer UK a couple of months ago. Does look a bit of a D3 clone, but apparently you're gonna have a helluva lot more interaction and squadwork, and vehicles and open, varied areas.

Basically all the stuff D3 could have done but didn't.

Of course the gameplay is probably going to be the similair. But one thing that you may or may not realize is that ID is appearently NOT developing Quake 4. Raven Software is.

And I loved Quake 2, btw.

I knew about Raven Software's roll ever since the game was first announced :p. Anyway, Raven's record is pretty hit-or-miss, if I remember correctly.

They managed to pull a decent shooter out of the Star Trek license...

Raven did Elite Force one, which was pretty good. But Ritual did EF2.

But EF1 and EF2 were about the only good games that came out of the ST franchise.

I have heard that Quake IV will be focusing on Single Player more and on Multiplayer less. They are right on this one, Quake III has everyhing a multiplayer-thirsty man needs.
If it uses the Doom III engine, then I am sure it will be moddable: There already is a map editor released for Doom III, so it's logical there will also be a map editor for Quake IV.

Not true - Bridge Commander was pretty freaking cool :)

Anyway, Raven also did SOF and SOF II, both boring, dull, and cliche gore-fests. Like I said - hit or miss.

Heretic and SOF II were both good games. Unfortunately, I have no way to play either by today. :sigh:
