The Doom Movie Looking a little better.
From what I remember, the RE movie seemed to only be 'Resident Evil' in the sense that by buying the name they could sell it easier to the fans of the game.  It had bullet time karate-kicking of mutant dogs, I believe.

No, I'm not kidding, mik. I am NOT the kind of person who likes suspense movies (you know, the ones that make you jump, sit on the edge of your seat out of tension, etc, not talking about action movies), and suspense + zombies is just over the top for me.

That said, however, I never played any of the Resident Evil games (ok, I played the first one on a PlayStation for all of 3 minutes before it got too freaky for me), so I can't comment on how successful a carryover it was, but just from a movie point of view they were pretty decent... better in some ways (in my eyes, I repeat) than the neon-plastic Batman movies. :p

I'm with sandwich on that one, I haven't played any RE (I've watched friends play the first one and that's it), so to me, RE the movie was a good zombie movie (well, RE2 was, I didn't like the first one much). If doom is a good demon movie, I'll be happy too :p (well, and if it has cyberdemons and cacodemons :p). Btw, how was the cyberdemon in doom3? I'm curious ^^

cyberdemon in Doom 3 was cool and big, only you could only dmage it with the soulcube, I think that was cool, some people didn't like it

Thing is that the comments that Nico and Sandwich are making about why RE was good could be made about the Doom movie by anyone who hasn't played Doom.

As a movie RE wasn't bad in my opinion but I haven't played the game so I'm unaware of how big a bastardisation of the storyline it was. If you have played the game and do realise the liberties they are taking with it that could seriously ruin your enjoyment of the movie.

[color=66ff00]I played most of the RE games. The movie used most of the themes but had a lot less suspense. It relied too much on trying to look 'cool' but failed for the most part.

Most of the people that advocate it probably have a thing for Milla. ;) I'd prefer The Fifth Element.

I hate Milla Jovovitch, damn, I can't tell her front from her back, to begin with. I just liked how the city was really an undead city in RE2, with lots of zombies, and then even more zombies, plus a couple weird things running about for a change, and then, some more zombies.

For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. *turns back on-topic* :p

So long as the movie is set on Mars, includes an invasion from hell, has marines, and follows the ideas of the ranting I posted here, then I should be fine with the Doom movie.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

They aren't game->movie conversions. Shawn of the Dead is as much a Resident Evil movie as either Resident Evil movie was. IE: Not much. They both had zombies and there was a reason for the zombies, but that's about it. Otherwise, RE:the Movie is not related to RE: the Game at all.

Zombies wander around killing people. They are created by some strange agent (virus, bacteria, comet flying over head, stellar event, writers' whims) and some group of people, not understanding what they face, must try to get to a place of safety (and possibly destroy the zombies), while their numbers dwindle due to attrition.

I think that sums up pretty much every zombie movie ever AND most of the zombie games.

I hope you see my point.

Yup: how can you say that the movie is not faithful to the game, when obvisouly, whatever they'd do, it'd be right on perfect anyway :p (zombies, virus, people who die, voila!) :p
