[color=66ff00]You don't really get a choice. You can run linux on whatever platform you like and add new features as modules. Microsoft on the other hand designs its OSes so that you have to upgrade at a certain point.

[color=66ff00]I'll point you to Ubuntu for now, it's got a big following due to its ease of use.

I'd warn you though that linux is not for everyone. You'll need to do no small amount of reading to truely get to grips with it and then there's the games issue. FS2 runs on it in any case thanks to taylor and the magical folk at the SCP.

Maybe if you actually did a little searching when people suggest it you might realise why.

[color=66ff00]Linux.org is an excellent site that gives a lot of information about linux distros and linux in general.

You'd do well to read through it.

If you actually buy the next version of windows, then that is what you would pay.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I'd be more excited to see more games for Linux, or better Windows emulators for Linux, or better 64-bit support for Linux.

If it continues in the direction of XP, heh.
