I wish to post a massive thank you.
I don't know if this has been done before, (it probably has) but I would like to do it for myself.  Thanks to all you people who have obviously put in a TON of work on this project!

I know you're probably about ready to give me a massive "Welcome to the BB" beam because my name is unfamiliar, but I'm actually an old vet of the boards (I remember when daveb dropped the bomb that the source was going open) who left because life got busy and I had to prioritize my time better.  (-:

I wish I had been able to put this community higher in that prioritization, you guys seem fantastic.  I've been lurking here and there over the last few years, and just today I finally got my friend's FS2 discs (mine are here, but they've been damaged - it took my disc 2 and his 1 and 3 to make a proper install - but I backed them up this time) to install and downloaded PhReAk's 05-22-2005 release, and the results are SWEET!  I've had a few graphical anomalies, but nothing that hasn't already been reported.  I'd like to say that you guys are awesome, and my hat is off to all of you.

Actually, my hat is always off (I hate the things), but the sentiment stands.    I'll keep lurking around here, and now that I've learned something about programming, I could potentially even help out some.  My only question (and I've done some searching, but apparently I'm using the wrong keywords) is where can I can download and/or contribute to the source as it exists now?  I'd at the very least like to poke around and see what's going on these days.

Well, once again, I'd like to thank everyone for their hard work.  I'll keep in touch (or at least keep lurking )

I just fond out about this site a few days ago. I installed FS2 and downloaded all that I could find. I use the 5.3 launcher and the 50813 build. It looks fanfastic: OpenGL in a 1280&1024 resolution. Thanks for all the work. FS2 is one of my favourite games ever.

well I found this site yesterday and right now Im downloading all the packs ( at 10k/s :( argh ) so I dont know if I should thank you yet, but when looking at all the screens I know that I will proably cry of happiness.. Ive always loved freespace 2 and seeing that you guys take such good care of it now that it has become old makes my heart melt :)  really great work..

edit: um by the way, do I have to have the full version of freespace to have high resolution when using the sourcecode version?  right now I only have the "home-of-the-underdogs" version of freespace2 and it seems like I can only play at 640x480 in that..

um is it me youre asking?  well, :) the other day I felt an urge to play the ol´favorite, freespace 2, and so I went to home of the underdogs to download it, and while I was waiting I went to google to find some pictures of it..
There I was looking through the pictures and thinking how it still looked pretty good when all of the sudden a super good looking picture of freespace 2 emerged in front of me.. so I clicked my way through the djungel, finally discovering the source of the whole project, and then I realised: THIS I must have!!!  so I looked for some downloading guides and started downloading :)

sorry for the long story, I always talk to much :p

I dont know, but it seems like this site doesnt get the attention it deserves, I mean, I havent downloaded it yet but it looks absolutly gorgeous!!!

Hell yeah ! An image search for "Freespace 2"  comes up with WMCs "perseusawesome.png" on the first page

I know I've said it before, but it's worth saying a thousand times:  to anyone who has ever contributed to the SCP, thank you.  You've taken a game that was already amazing and turned it into something that rises above anything else I've ever seen.  I'm just starting to fumble my way through an intro to comp. sci. course, and while about all I can do now is display "Hello, world!", maybe someday I'll know enough to make some tiny contribution to the product myself.  You guys have brought a massive burst of new life and creativity into a community long since abandoned by its publisher.  I just know that, if by some miracle, the Descent 3 community ever gets our hands on the source, we probably won't be able to do a tenth of what you've done.  Keep up the good work, and I'll repeat IP's warning to avoid against head explosions, no matter how beautifully rendered they may be. :p

Seriously, thanks and good job to everyone who has worked on the SCP.  I don't know if I can ever go back to retail FS2.  No.  Not me.  Ever.

I just stumbled on this site- I have had FS 2 forever. My question is how do you go about using the SCP. I have been reading some of the posts but apparently I am not comprehending the steps that need to be taken. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
