Leaked images from a Spanish showing for the Xbox 360 revealed something quite intriguing... A listing under game engines...

Check out this picture:
(Anyone speak Spanish?)

And might as well post the others:

(that's one very funky looking typing set-up and camera...)

The person who leaked the images also says that the spanish chief
said "you will be pleasantly surprised" about the price and that
there's also something really big coming for x'05.

Wow, this is coming in fast. A new batch of leaks (Microsoft needs to call the plumber...):

Wireless networking between units... Connectivity with the PSP (lol!)...  Digital Cameras... and MP3 players...

I didn't realize it was in the news yet. Heh.

EDIT: It's not yet... This was on the Gamespot forums, not a news site.

Only 512mb of RAM? At the very least I would have given it a gig.

The problem is too many people making textures for games have them very low-resolution, and when upscaled for PC they're only maybe twice the res they were on the X-Box. The end result being generally crummy textures on both platforms.

*sigh*

Screw Microsoft and it's XBOX systems. The only game I want that is on XBOX is Halo 2. Every other game I want that is on XBOX is on PS2, PC, or both. I'm not about to blow 200 dollars for an XBOX and 1 game. I think I'll just wait for a decent emulator.

Won't happen for a long time. What required to emulate the xbox is alot of CPU power.

actually I just googled and people have made alot more progress then when I last looked up the subject.

In theory, all you really need to emulate an Xbox is an nForce/nForce2-based Windows PC. Due to encryption and lockouts on the Xbox BIOS in particular though, it's likely to be a lot more difficult. Being x86-based you certainly don't have to go to the same lengths other console emulators do in order to emulate it.

It's a console, not a PC. It doesn't need an outrageous amount of RAM because it doesn't have the same overheads that a PC does. Look at the PS2, that only had about 32MB of RAM and still managed to host some damn decent games.

Although the PS2 IIRC has some stupidly large amount of bus bandwidth.  But it still suffers from the lowest res textures of any console.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

and those would be the OS and all the little proggies that it needs to run proplerly that are in the background..  512 of ram is a rather indecent amount to be putting into a console, i can't wait to see (with my own eyes, not some screenshot that for we could know, be a render) what all of the latest consoles can do.

You don't even need an nForce based PC. Most modern PCs could probably handle it. The specs of the original XBox were pretty pathetic, my 2 year old laptop could run rings arout it. Plus the original XBox used the Windows 2k kernal. It REALLY shouldn't be THAT hard to emulate it.

Bypassing the encryption and lockouts can be done. Just look at all the copy pretections schemes that have been cracked.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
