The DVI connections only make a difference for LCDs though. CRTs that support them are extremely rare and don't benefit from them anyway.

Then I'm going to make the outside surface look like a Shivan hull...

The front panel will probably end up mostly drives, switches and red glowy bits.
The rear will have what looks like an engine around the top PSU vents, and an auxiliary engine around the bottom ones.

That sounds very cool. Post some pictures around here when you are done.

Anyone here know where I can find a reliable power usage chart for the basics: motherboard, cpus, drives, etc?

The whole thing lol:D atleast as specific as i could find lol:D

And yes the DVI connections make only a difference on a LCD screen. So far i havent seen them on CRT's and proberly never will as they like you said don't benefit from them.

The new Sun LCD's that we get at work have support for HD-15 and DVI-I and DVI-D. But those screens are used for graphical designing platforms.

My GFX card does support DVI but since i don't have a LCD i don't use it and i still preffer CRT over LCD anytime, call me old fashioned:p

I know of just one CRT out there with a DVI connector and it's a bit below top of the line. It's too bad that most new video cards only have DVI connectors though and those DVI-VGA dongles they come with aren't always of high quality.

Nothing wrong with that. :D They're still the best choice for games (superior contrast, color uniformity and refresh rates as well as flexibility with resolutions) unless you can afford the $3000+ professional grade LCDs, and even then you have to spend over twice that to get comparable resolutions. So I got the performance of a $6000 LCD for around $700. :D The best thing about my monitor is this superbright feature. There is a button on the front that instantly doubles or triples the brightness while maintaining the contrast (light colors become brighter and more saturated while dark colors stay dark) and makes games look simply awesome. The difference this thing makes is like night and day; there is nothing quite like it out there.

The only shortcomings of this monitor are the two faint lines that appear on all aperture grill CRTs. They are noticeable on a light background, although only if I consciously look them. The advantages of AG monitors far outweigh those lines though IMO.

It's hard to measure that accurately, although you can get some rough readings. Are you trying to figure out what kind of power supply you need?

That's a 6-bit TN monitor though, so dark gradients are going to look like crap on it.

anyway, I guess all this is kind of getting off topic...

yeah, that VX924 is 6-bit.

If you are going to spend that much, get one of the LCDs with the x-brite/opticlear coating. Sony and NEC make some, although only in 19" versions. They look far better than normal LCDs.

feh, not all of us are slobs. :p I used to be actually, but like Kalfireth, I couldn't find anything when I wanted to, so now I am fairly organized with all my stuff. :D Anyway, only that laptop is in my own room.

That being said, the rest of my room doesn't look so nice. My incomplete Lego projects and random pieces are scattered around the floor. Most of the stuff is neatly sorted into arrays of small compartments, but if I take out a piece and then decide not to use it, I tend to just leave it on the floor instead of putting it back inside its bin.

a monitor that is going out of focus can be fixed - you just ahve to trust yourself with the casing off adjusting [with an insulated screwdriver!] the knobs

Ya, I'm trying to mount:

3 HDDs
1 DVD/CD combo drive
AMD 2ghz CPU (Athlon XP 2800 Barton, I believe)
Nvidia FX 5600 U.
TVTuner card
and many many fans

I'm curious if my current 450watt power supply will be able to handle that safely.

It's easy still dangerous sparks can still go through the cables isolation experienced it to many times:), but i suggest using a plastic object that fits the knobs would be better. Also try to get a nice grid pattern on the screen makes adjusting the focus more easy. Unless the tube quality is going down then you can have a hard time focusing it propperly:)
