"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

My entire music library is made up of ripped CDs that I paid money for. If they go after CD ripping, I'm going to light someone on fire.

I've got around 5gigs of music on my machine in mp3s. Now...out of the 900 or so songs, I maybe haven't paid for around 50. Why? Because I didn't have an extra $20 just happening to be lying around.

[color=66ff00]More overpaid, underworked, record company asshat spiel.

Hmmm perhaps the whole right versus wrong angle should be used when thinking about misrepresenting exactly who is responsible for dwindling (yet stupendiously profitable) record sales? Lets see, the market is currently saturated by carbon copy drivel yet it's the downloader's fault that music isn't selling so much...

Only when the world stops buying this thoughtless, talentless crap will we see any reasonable action against the RIAA/BPA/Insert your country's money grabbing media conglomeration here. Listen up people, they're taking your money and using it to sue you!

Next time you're thinking about buying that shiney new CD, check to see if it's on the RIAA supported list, if it is then just go buy something that isn't.

I actually agree, but does anybody know where such a list is? I spent a few minutes on Google but nothing turned up.

LOL This means they will be going for the 'Rip' menu is Media Player, RIAA vs Microsoft.... could be interesting ;)

As for home copying, screw 'em I own most of the stuff I copy, which is legal under British copyright law as long as I don't distribute.

I'm going to go download some more music just to spite these *******s.

I haven't bought a CD since they started suing, and I'll continue to not buy CDs from RIAA affiliated labels (which is a lot) until they pull their heads out of their asses and realize they're wasting their ****ing money alienating their source of revenue. :hopping:

Btw, if they wanted to stop file sharing (Ha!) shouldn't they have targeted ripping from the start? It has to get onto your computer first.

I don't understand what's wrong with ripping a CD. It's yours. You bought it. Sure, I suppose you could misuse it but you can misuse just about anything that has a perfectly legal, innocent function. You could buy a pizza and then stuff some guy's face in the burning hot grease, for which he could probably get you arrested for assault if he really wanted to.

I never though I would hear myself saying this but M$ would be the lesser of two evils.

Since they both seem to have bottomless pockets it would be a very interesting court case.........

Wait...so P2P networks provide some sort of "danger"?  Here's a question:  what about the dangers of letting *******s like the RIAA have free rein in the courts?  Guess they haven't realized it, but the more they press their "successful" campaign, the more business they'll lose, and the worse off they'll be.  Pity they're not bright enough to realize this; they'll just have to learn the hard way.

Same here basically, but I still don't know why Opeth went with Roadrunner records for Ghost Reveries, because there is no way I'm not getting that CD.:p

1) CD's are more expensive than they need to be
2) Indie bands are distributing their music online anyways...leave the midman behind
3) Ripping CD's is so you can keep em on your hard drive and put them on your MP3 player....this isn't a bad thing - this is what people buy music for
4) Apple has made a killing on iTunes...take a hint...people will pay if the method is right
5) Right and wrong - RIAA is misrepresenting the situation...who is right and who is wrong exactly?
6) The old studio lable/artist/industry system is outdated...roll over

I'm waiting for these guys to finally realize that nobody else is listening to them seriously anymore.  Decline in CD sales is not linked, never was, and the problems lie elsewhere.

Basically. But their lawyers remind me of some kind of weird genetic mutation born from two parts Bill Gates, three parts Jack Valenti, and five parts Brunt. My ISP got pissed enough about me downloading one CD that they sent a guy here to ***** me out and try to get money out of me. I showed him my legitimately bought copy of that CD, scratched beyond use, showed him the single backup copy I burned, and he promptly left, never to be heard from again.
