ok, it only works with an ATI card, so if you dont have one, there might be another way, but i don't know it

get the ATI Tray tools, go to the opengl tab (and make sure youre running FS2 in OGL), and click settings, then under smartshader, click sketch.  HDRish and HDRish light are there too, but i dont like the way they look

have fun

More pictures. (56k beware of course) ;7

First one here is a mock-up of Nv's Digital Vibrance, just enhances the colours :

These next 3 are using a Sharpen smartshader :

And these next 4 are using Watercolour + Ink Outline smartshader :

Personally, I think sharpen is the best way to view FS2 in opengl. Seeing a 3d shockwave go off with a sharpen filter on is utterly impressive :)

Sorry about the quality, had to reduce the shots to a respectable size (was originally 10mb for the lot).

Also, rather than use ATT for smartshader effects (which has an incredibly limited selection), you should use the Pixel Shader Effects tool, which also comes with about 20 or 30 smartshaders, available here :

http://www.beyond3d.com/downloads/smartshader/pssControl2.zip

http://www.beyond3d.com/downloads/smartshader/psseffects.zip

Extract PssControl2 to any folder, then extract all the effects from psseffects into the same folder as the exe from pssControl2. Then just run the app and select your smartshader.

Also note this is ATi only, sorry Nv users ;)

If only you could do that to effect the space around you but not the ships interface...

I hope Bob's material shader system will allow this. :)

I can testify as to how cool that first shader looks when it's in motion.  It felt as though I was playing an entirely new game.  Beam combat and shockwaves were real standouts, and the explosion graphics actually looked better shaded like that than in their normal colors.  If the text wasn't so hard to read, I'd play like that a lot more often. :)

Actually postfilters are available for all gfx cards.

The DXTweaker allows the use of postfilters for all D3D games (min DX7).

The problem is, there are almost no shaders.

I've just tested the "Saturation increase" shader and it looked quite nice for comic/anime style games like Grandia II, or even Final Fantasy 9 (emulator).

So, that being said, is there any way for us Nvidia-ites to get in on all this coolness? :D

None that I know of. And it takes a lot of tweaking to figure out how to properly make the HDRish effect work nicely in FS2 under an ATI card. It is possible to produce a "perfect" fake bloom, but it causes the video card to die trying to render it.

Could someone give me a more concise explanation on how to do this? If it helps, I'm using an ATi Radeon 9600 with Catalyst.

EDIT:: nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks anyway to anyone who would've helped.

EDIT II: could someone help me out as to where to get to the "ATI Tray Tools" or whatever it was? I wanna try out the HDR shader, but I can't get to it.
