i'd be happy if it matched something like the latter ace combat series..

I don't expect a huge amount of realism from a game that runs off a console... simply not enough controls to simulate indepth flight.

When it comes to flight sims, graphics has become secondary to me. The Ace Combat series have always wowed us with eye candy goodness, but has ALWAYS disappointed me in the avionics department.  C'mon 50 missiles per fighter? I want REAL WORLD dynamic flight, not Top Gun maneuvering BS (F-14 cannot out maneuver the F-5 Tiger passed off as a MIG). When it comes to Jet sims I want a mix of realistic avionics with an arcade-like learning curve.

So far only 2 console Jet games met this criteria; N64's Aerowings Assault (made by the same company that makes military simulations) and Dreamcast's Aerowings 2. I HIGHLY recommend those games to hardcore wannabe  jet jockeys. Those games had me dogfighting a SINGLE opponent for nearly 15 minutes thanks to the aircraft/missile physics and ADVANCED AI that actually tries to get on my six. Those games show that a console CAN make good flight sims.

This new games looks pretty, but if that and AC6 have space invaders gameplay, I'll hold on to my $$$.

The Ace Combat series has never been about realism.  It's pure arcade fun.

realism is one thing, fun is another. besides, show me one fighter that actually flies using a dual shock controller :p

It certainly looks pretty :)

I used to like F15-Strike Eagle (years ago) where you could alter the difficulty from everything to as close to 'real' as an Amstrad 6128 could get, down to Arcade level, though personally, I'm more in it for shooting stuff than trying to balance flaps, mixtures, nozzles etc ;)

None of us do, seeing as neither console is released yet.

I played AC4...very, very fun - but I'd have to say my favorite jet sim of all time is either Jane's F-15 or Jane's F/A-18 for the PC - kickass, both of them :)

But I really loved AC4, because it captured why everyone really wants to fly jets: go fast, blow crap up, and look good doing it :D

You tell me, does that look great?

Not to mention the fact that it only got about an 8.3.
