I'm frankly not impressed, it looks complicated I've used 3d space mice an' they ARE NOT GOOD for precision, but I'll reserve judgement until I use it. At least that explains how they are goin' t'do NES games...
I've used mice that use th'same tech AND IT DOESNT WORK FOR PRECISION stuff. They claim it will be great for FPSs, but I just don't see it.
[/q] (on Nintendo controller thread - that ye started. Worth notin' yer 'I love Nintendo' quote came as a response t'bein' challenged there, too)

Hmmm... I was expectin' a little more...

[q]WTH!!!!
All th'sites have th'GoW an' NNN presentations blacked out!!! What th'HELL! WHY ARE THEY HIDING IT!!![/q]
(same thread, in what would appear t'be completely irrelevant attempt t'detour it aft into x360 games)
Oh, an' lets not forget startin' 2 threads for th'same game; an' gettin' all uppity on th'first when someone suggested another game best graphics, promptin' an assault o' promo screenshots from another game.
Some other subtle plugs
[q]Too bad me PC won't run it... Or be that really a loss since Bathsheda says th'X360 version be better anyway. I need t'get around t'upgradin' me PC one o' these days nonetheless.[/q]

I think this sums it up pretty well...

quote:Everyone be overreacting. The entire press be actin' like this be some huge mistake "to release two *different consoles" at different price points. It be th'same freakin' console people! We all expected th'unit t'come packaged with everythin' under th'sun in th'box for some amazingly cheap price; anythin' less than our stunnin' high expectations be considered a ludicrous mistake. Some o' ye have commented that MS be goin' t'make a profit on each unit - an' I have t'ask, are ye serious? Does anyone have any idea how much these hardware components cost? The real word be that each unit with HD costs MS $477 each - that doesn't sound like a positive profit margin t'me. Let's add up some internal components:
1) Triple core processor (with stripped L2 cache) - AMD Sempron's (equiv cache size?) at this speed (single core) cost about $150
2) 512MB o' memory - $99
3) Water coolin' solution - gonna add t'the cost here
4) Oh yeah, premium high end video chipset - heck, ATI X850XT PE's are goin' for o'er $400 bucks still..
5) 2.5 inch notebook drives cost more - While 20 GB be kind o' paltry for PC storage needs, this ain't yer t'port PC, an' it's goin' t'be in a custom enclosure, those things cost money too!
6) Case, power supply, etc, etc, etc - $$$
Do we get th'picture here? Or should I continue?
I think EVERYTHING in this reaction centers around th'lack o' th'HDD as standard equipment, which I admit be a bit dissapointing. I still hope developers take advantage o' th'HD for better game performance (and I wonder an some games will require it t'even play th'game), but th'reality be that even though Xbox1 had th'HDD, it wasn't used for boostin' performance by most developers (no cachin' o' game files people). Game saves, media files, an' downloadable content from Live were th'primary use. At any given point, barrin' some huge amount o' ripped mp3s on th'unit, th'HD was largely NOT utilized for performance increases as everyone thought (<1 GB o' data).
This be definitely a simple marketin' stunt by MS, nay bones about it. I'm nabbin' a $399 one myself - there's nay way ye can "live" on XBLive without th'HD! Flyers for Thanksigivin' weekend will have th'"Xbox360 Next-Gen Console" listed as "Startin' at $299!" - def looks good in th'books, an' this be how every console launched in th'last generation - standard procedure people. Everyone needs t'take a big breath, MS get's criticized nay matter what they do, it's part o' bein' such a large corporation.
For those o' ye what think th'PS3 will undercut this cost when it launches, I'm LMAO. No freakin' way people - th'hardware be even more exotic, an' Kutaragi has already told us t'get ready for sticker shock. When PS3 launches in late '06, it will sell for AT least th'same price, and probably more...by this point, th'360 will have dropped in price by a least 50 bucks, an' probably get a game bundled with it. The REV be also not goin' t'be as cheap as people hope ($149? - LMAO again).
Technology costs money, an' th'tech ain't gettin' cheaper people. GET A GRIP![/q][/q] (havin' a hie at criticism o'er th'stupid 2 part release plan)
[q]smacks head:
Don't people feel stupid???
Even with th'HD th'production costs are low enough that Microsoft can undercut th'price o' th'PS3.
Only a few games on th'original Xbox took advantage o' th'HD as a tool for reducin' loadin' times, etc (like Halo). Most games simply used it t'store saved games/custom sound tracks.
The only time th'console would be without th'HD would be an someone feels th'inclination t'take it o'er t'a friends house instead o' luggin' around th'whole system t'share some save games or perhaps games on th'HD.
:smacks head:
Hangin' around th'Gamespot forums be bad for ones health... I never thought it would make it t'HLP.
I have a new idea, how about we not speculate about features as an as o' yet unreleased console an' maybe focus on things that are currently more interesting? Like F.E.A.R.[/q]
(response t'the first thread here which brought up th'-then rumoured- dual release models for th'xbox360. The thread was critical, hence th'attempt t'divert into a PC game thread)

I doubt it will drive up prices considerin' that peripherals are already sold for a LOT more than th'production value. Xbox contollers at th'Msoft Company store sell for about 75% o' th'usual price. In addition all new games thar sell for 25$ rather than 50$. Plus I think that this will increase th'quality o' peripherals. I'm tired o' seein' so much bilge out there...[/q] (usin' th'MS company store - which I presume ye must be a member o' - as an example o' license fees reducin' competition leadin' t'low pricing.....!?)

1. Better graphics? Don't make me laugh. Wait until ye actually see real graphics until ye make that judgement. You say "but th'floatin' point!" That doesn't mean much for graphics. This generation, th'real powerhouses in th'consoles were th'GPUs. And in this case th'Xbox 360 hands down has th'PS3 beat.
2. CD player an' DVD player? I'm laughin' again. Every next gen console will have these.
3. Wrong. Xbox Live be th'largest console gamin' service, even beatin' out th'free PS2 service.
About th'consoles in general.
I'm willin' t'bet that Microsoft will pull a fast one when th'PS3 launches, both by cuttin' prices an' launchin' some major titles (GoW, Halo 3). The PS3 be bound t'retail for $399 or more, so th'Xbox 360 (I'm not even considerin' th'"core package") will have a better price an' a greater library o' new games. With such an advantage I imagine that many will sprin' for th'Xbox 360 rather than th'PS3 except for th'die-hard PS3 fans. I see th'Revolution fittin' into th'whole picture as complementary t'a PS3 or Xbox 360 with (hopefully) a cheap price. However, I still think th'idea o' payin' t'download old Nintendo games be rediculous, especially for those what keep their old consoles.[/q]
(Nice little quote attackin' th'other 2 consoles; almost spoutin' th'usual PR rubbish about vis-a-vis computation o' th'x360 an' PS3 when in actuality we couldn't yet make that comparison as a lot o' th'PS3 GPU is/was under wraps)
And...well, there's a lot more. Like postin' somethin' made up by th'MS xbox360 technical department as bein' a fair performance comparator amidst th'PS3/xbox360 (which was complete techy-bollocks IIRC; ignored, for example, an entire block o' RAM on th'PS3). And postin' links t'not only th'first 2 viral marketin' sites, but also frequently postin' links t'the 'puzzle o' th'day' for them.
Granted, you've been a little less harsh o'er Nintendo (because they're not straight up competitors ala Sony), but o' th'quoes you've selected - th'first was just done up thar for defensive purposes an' still be a limp wristed criticism, th'2nd was in response t'bein' called a fanboi after startin' a thread slaggin' poff th'Revolution controller, th'3rd was in response t'me critcisin' ye after ye posted another advert for th'Xbox (specifically downloadin' games off xbox live, in response t'people pointin' out an' praisin' Nintendos classic games service for th'Rev;
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,32678.0.html), th'4th was primarily as a aft handed swipe at Sony RE leaked press shots for interest (which ye're very good at pickin' up an' showin' when it comes t'x360), an' th'5th (
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,32669.0.html) was actually not only not a compliment ('here's hoping'), it was only made in th'context o' pointin' out how bloody ugly th'PS3 is. and then launching into protracted sniping at the as then undisplayed console.
I believe th'term be 'shiver me timbersin' with faint praise'.
EDIT:
